Fat lip bumper swap

I think the "Fat Lip" just unbolts from the bumper. It does cover the real steel bumper. The cosmetic bumper is just that. The real bumper is behind the bottom of the fat lip and isn't real pretty. If it was nicely painted it wouldn't look too bad. I don't think an earlier year bumper would fit over it.
What about replacing the whole bumper with an offroad one? It would give you a lot more approach angle.

Thanks for the info guys. This answers my question. I would just throw an ARB on it, but I don't have the funds right now, plus it's the wife's daily driver. I just think it looks horrible with that giant "fat lip." Between that and the fact that it is lower than older models and only has 235/75r15s on it makes it look pretty weak. The stubby bumper and some 30x9.5 BFG ATs should do a lot for it in the looks department.

FWIW the fat lip started in 99 not 2000. My 99 had the fat lip before I swapped it out.
Now having said that - my "fat lip" did save me from some front end damage when I got into a fender-bender in March. If I'd had the regular bumper I would have had much more extensive damage to the grille and fender and possibly to the radiator too. Just FYI.
Not a great photo (taken at night) but you can see where the right side of the bumper was pushed back towards the fender.
A little bit more of a close-up, but as you can see the plastic panel was broken. The center (plastic chrome) grill piece was also broken in two places but nothing else. Honestly, if I'd wanted to save the bumper, I could have, but I decided that since the cost was the same, I might as well upgrade to something a bit tougher:
