Favorite DIY alarm?

My 17yo daughter's bday is coming up in two week and I'd like to get her an alarm that we can install ourselves. If you have a favorite brand of alarm, please let me know. Back in the day, I've installed couple of alarms but it's been a long time and I'm hoping the industry has made huge improvements since then.

the ones I've heard the best out of are the Viper brand

Just got off the phone with Crutchfield and they directed me to the Excalibur brand. Their Viper models won't work with this 4runner, I guess.
