Feedback on Intakes & Exhaust Anyone?

So I'm thinking about upgrading my exhaust and my intake.

An exhaust shop down the street will replace the muffler with a flowmaster for $160 which I thought was a pretty good deal. A little more "rumble" noise and maybe some horsepower increase. Of course I'll throw a stainless steel tip on the exhaust too for looks.

For air intake, I was considering upgrading to a K&N but I'm not sure it's worth it for power increase.

I guess my questions are:
1. Anyone try the flowmaster exhaust? Any recommendations for a 2008 Sport Edition v6?

2. Can anyone recommend an air intake? Does it make a power difference (any difference in noise)? Is it a pain to clean? Is it hard on the head gasket?

free bump for ya y. I purchased a flowmaster 50 series, but have not had time to get it put on. I was just going to get the muffler put in place and keep all factory piping and add a chrome tip similar to what it seems you will be doing. Just wasn't sure on the filter/intake since I seen before that other members here posted this .............after reading it I figured I'd stay oem if a trueflow filter can not be found.

the stock box already is a CAI ,with an aftermarket CAI you wont get much if any hp increase until u drive 55+ mph, but you will notice better throttle response & more of a sucking sound with the K&N since its an open box, plenty of guys including myself have used aftermarket without any adverse affects, but you will have to clean the throttle body, tube & MAF sensor more often (every 2000 miles). its also better to get a DRY filter , than a WET one, which k&n is. i use volant powerflow (dry) on my 4r, but used a k&n cai on my last vec. for almost 12 years without problems. since u asked about k&n - K&N Air Filter Facts You Should Know amsoil is a decent brand. How to pick an aftermarket air intake filter that removes dust? Mostly Mechanical check this forum & you/ll see lots of guys use aftermarket,for every - read , theres a +one, its up to u, just remember if ya go offroad to put a sock on it & clean it afterwards..goodluck

It really depends on what you after an intake an exhaust is fine however you wont be getting more performance without proper tuning. I'm running a K&N filter and has been fine and I do recharge it every 5000 miles. I also clean the throttle body and MAF sensor at the same time. If you want it to sound cool then thats all you need and you should be fine

I am not too sure about gains with the V6 but here is some info on gains with intake, exhaust and more with the V8.

There IS a benefit on the V8.

I would also watch adding just a muffler, it seems some of the guys who just add a muffler and not the cat back kit seem to get a lot of inside drone. I just put the Magnaflow cat back on my V8 and I am totally fine with it. The "drone" that I hear with this setup is normal to me and I have had Borla, Flowmaster, and Magnaflow setups on all of my old vehicles.

Best advise is to do some searching/research and make your own educated decision on what to purchase.

has anyone actually dyno'd a v8 runner stock, then with these mods? that would be the be all and end all of these discussions...and i'd love to know!!

I am pretty sure OUTRNNR(the member who did all the dyno runs in the link I posted) had in done that once, he lists what each mod did for power in his sig.

I have the Volant and the Magnaflow and would be happy with the gains he listed for those 2 items. You have to remember though that is the v8, not the v6 so???
