Feelings on after-market Sunroofs?

I saw this cool Sunroof at JC Whitney and not bad priced at $190 for a 17x35.

What is anyone's thoughts on after-market Sunroofs? Do you think it would leak all the time? What about durability? I would prefer an electric over a pop-up, but I haven't been able to find one anywhere.

Adding on a sunroof can be a good thing given you do two things: Buy a QUALITY product and install it correctly.

The biggest problems are usually with tightening the fasteners too much or not enoguht. Just like with valve covers, you have to torque them correctly to seal and not warp the mounting surface.

I see they have a one kind fits all. This is usually ok, gaskets and such are more important. Do some web research and see if anyone online has any negative comments on these. They look ok to me, but I would like to see one before I bought it myself.

I have an aftermarket sunroof in my Runner and is extremely water tight. One problem I had with it was once when I was rolling up the side window while going down the highway the sunroof literally blew out! I saw it come down in the rear view mirror to my dismay. I ended up getting a whole new sunroof installed because the one I had was discontinued.

I wouldn't want to do it myself. But I have a feeling you'd pay an arm and a leg to get it put in by somebody.

I'm being told by the dealer that they saw a bill come through for a 4Runner that had it done and it was around $1,400.

i also don't have a sun roof. this could be my next project if i have time.
