Feels like running out of gas

Situation: full tank of gas, brand new fuel injectors and spark plugs and wires, driving steady state down the highway and all of a sudden it feels like I'm running out of gas for a few seconds (sputters) and then returns to normal. Doesn't happen very regularly and doesn't seem to coincide with hard acceleration like a fuel filter or failing pump would. Not throwing any codes and O2 sensors passed the OBD2 test. Any other diagnostic tests I can run?

I had a similar problem happen a few times then all of a sudden didn't want to roll from a stop and then ran fine for two weeks. then started but wouldn't roll and eventually no more starts. My pump was the culprit. Pump tested a checked good in every way except didn't check pressure.

At this point you could test things but if it's intermittent you may not see faulty signs.

I was unable to recreate it when it had intermittent faults and it wasn't until it fell on its face that it threw a code.

Thanks for the tip, I'll see if I can catch low fuel pressure and might order a new pump preemptively

yeah, i did mine on the ground, half a tank full and had a 3 hour time limit before i needed the truck again so it was kinda stressful but i got it done. it would be much easier if i had no gas in it.

I also did mine on the ground in sub-freezing weather. siphoned out what I could but still have over 1/3 in the tank, was definitely a PITA but simple after having at it. I would test pressure and also lift up the rear seat and pop the hatch for the fuel pump and test the resistance on the pos and neg terminals on the pump.

nope. I got under there and pulled the hose for the filler neck and stuck a siphon in there.

Fuel Pressure Regulator?
When mine went bad, it was pretty obvious. It started leaking through the vacuum line into the Air Intake Baffle.
I had the same basic symptoms as you.

I'll have to check out the pressure regulator, I hadn't thought about that. I imagine really the only way to check and see if it works is to hook up a pressure gauge to the fuel rail and give it a rev or two? They look like they run about $110 on RockAuto so I really hope it's not that.

Very new here (today) I recently purchased a 3rd gen 4runner 4x4 and found this site
I was concerned about how to test a fuel pump and out of everything i watched on youtube, this one was my favorite.
Being new here i hope it is permissible to do this, if not let me know and i won't do it again.
