Fender Extensions

Considering buying fender flares for 90 4Runner but wondering if they are worth it, looking to eliminating, or at least minimizing mud splatter to the side of the vehicle and is there some modification, or refab. involved. Finally, any suggestions regarding a source where they found quality for at a reasonalbe price???? Appreciate any input-thanky you.

Pre-made flares for the 2nd Gen are hard to come by, especially wide ones. I found Bushwacker Extend-a-fenders to be a quality flare--they look good, are easy to install, and they're very tough (I've ground mine against trees with no damage!). For larger flares, the rear doors are the problem--they're so close to the fenderwell, anything very large needs to be a two-piece design, and the aftermarket has not embraced this idea. As for mud splatter, flares really won't help much--you need flaps behind each wheel for that, which can be found anywhere in universal-fit designs.

Went to Bushwacker and J.C. Whitney; both carry the 'Flexy Flare' and 'Fender Extender' but according to both sites item description the Fender Extention is the only type that fits the 90 4runner application??? I will call and inquire when it comes time to purchase. I have the mud flaps on the rear but I believe it's the 31X10.5, wide profile fronts tires that seem to be the primary source of the mud slinging, not by much, just not sure 1.5 extention will make a difference. There are quite a few 4 wheelers in my area, next time I come across one with extensions I will have to question the driver. Thank you all, appreciate the input!!
