Fender Flares Q

I'm planning on adding bushwacker "Extend-a-flares-" on my 92 4runner.

1) I've got a question, what do they do other than protect from road debris and make it look nicer?

2) Can they prevent rust from forming around the wheel well?

3) And do i have to remove the running boards in order to install them?

4) Also, what are the drawback to installing the fender flares?

Yep,if it was about 20" rims you'd have 50 replies by now.

1) You answered your own question

2) They might help but older Toyotas do seem to have wheelwell rust issues no matter what.

3) Some of the kits I think can still use the stock running boards but when I put a set of Bushwackers on my '97 Runner I just yanked the boards.

4) Nothing really. It took me and a friend with a power screwdriver less than 90 minutes to install them. On the rear doors you do have to drill 4 small holes to fit the bracket that holds the flare piece to the door but nothing major.

for question 2, they usually help rust grow faster. dirt and moisture get stuck in between the flares and the wheel wells and can stay there for a while causing rust to form much quicker, especially if there is a lot of dirt in there. I always make I get fresh water and soap inbetween the flares and the body when i am washing the car, and flush the dirt out really good.

How do you clean the the inside though? Aren't they screwed until they are flush with the body?

just spray in the cracks petween the flares and the body on top, and from underneath real good.
