fess up whoever you are

To be fair if only "people who used them off road" bought 4x4s, the sales volume would be so low that companies probably wouldn't make them or the price would be so high that most of us wouldn't be able to afford them.

If you apply this logic to other types of cars (sports cars, muscle cars, hot hatches, most pickups) you'd eliminate many cars from the road and replace them with civics, camarys, CRVs, RAV4s, etc. You'd only have the cars that are basic reliable transportation, which would be dull.

Let people drive what they want to drive; it ain't your money.

You do make a valid point. I guess maybe we are lucky so many people aren't smart with their money and buy 4x4's to be used only as pavement pounders.

Wrangler parts are dirt cheap because so many people buy wranglers for "the look". If you're a wrangler enthusiast that makes repair and after market parts easier to afford. You also have more aftermarket options, since the wrangler market it so huge.

Wranglers tend to be an emotional purchase (probably the case with your friend). There are plenty of other "more logical" options out there but they evoke America, ruggedness, freedom, fun...and the shape is iconic. 2015 US sales amounted to 202,702 of 'em...Globally they sold 255,283....that is a quarter million wranglers in a year (mostly in the US). They may have their flaws, but Americans love 'em.

4runner sales have been creeping up though that last few years though! That is a good sign for 5th gen owners. 2015 really crushed it.

Both the Ford and Jeep have manual hubs, since usually I'm passenger I'm the one who always has to get out and switch them :redbrick:

What you do is lock them before you start wheeling so you dont have to get out. You can drive with them locked and the car in 2H. Its the same as our auto locks at that point

... engaging when driving in 2wd rotating your front assembly dragging your mpg down and burning you fluid. Screw automatic hubs

Yep, less wear on CV's with manual locking hubs

...Not to mention its less wear on your cvs if I'm not mistaken
Correct. Here in So Cal it's surely better to have manual locking hubs most of the year.
In countries where they really use their 4WD's manual locking hubs are also popular, even on higher end - but workhorse trucks...

Iv not seen those tail lights before. and iv looked.
Any info on them, no amber just clear and red. I had ordered some clear only covers for mine with the intent of using colored LED bulbs. The clears I ordered looked correct but couldn't be adapted to fit.
And that front bumper looks nice.
great video

This made my day. Thanks for that.

And to part of the conversation. True. A LOT of people by 4wd vehicles and never take them off the pavement. Case in point, a good friend bought Jeep a few years ago. Lifted it. Bigger tires. The whole deal. An emotional purchase as someone stated earlier. He only engaged 4wd when it rained. I never could figure out why.

The lady I bought my 4Runner from told me she owned it for 2years and never knew how to put it in 4wd so I wouldn't be surprised if this person didn't know either
