It has been a while since i have been to the range, but I think when I did go, I would usually go through a box. It depended on who I was with and if they were using my gun or not.
I am not sure what the state laws are up north pretaining to gun permits. I am licensed to carry a concealed weapon and it is usually honored by the neighboring states, but then again, i have never had to show my license. If you are doing anything illegal or stupid, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

I own a few But I bought them a long time ago (10 years) back when you could still get the 15 round clips. So the prices are off im sure.
I have a Glock 22 40 cal. a great gun I don't care what some say about it it shoots straight never jams and feild strips in about 5 sec. $450.00
I also have a Rugar 9mm nice too but takes longer to field strip it.
$300.00
and a S&W 357. nice also can't remember what I paid for it.
Ammo there are the practice rounds about $15 a box and the stuff you want to keep in it at home for when you need it $30 a box.
I go through about 3 or 4 boxes at the range depends on the person though.
I go to a great indoor range that costs about $50 for a hour or so.
No you can't get a license to carry in another state you don't live in. unless of course your a policeman,FBI etc. you get the idea

I believe as long as the state you are visiting also has a provision allowing licensed civilians to carry firearms, that state will have to honor any licenses to carry from other states. It's somewhere in the Constitution, I forget where and I'm too tired to look.

I just called my local gun shop about the class for gun and safety, and showing you how to pop off a few rounds. They supply the gun and ammo, and we get to shoot both outside and in, and they supply a book that I need to read to pass my multiple choice test that I will need to get my license. I did the same thing for my motorcycle test, I figure it would be just as easy.

I wouldn't even bother with a .22. You might as well start off with a 9mm. You'll outgrow a .22 as soon as you finish your gun course. 9mm is easy to shoot, cheap ammo, etc. I got a Beretta 92FS because I didn't like how the glock felt in my hand. I made some custom wood grips and I love it. I think it's a really good first handgun.

That's really good advice. I was planning to do just that when I got my carry permit for this place I am going to is really small on the inventory side. However, there was a place upnorth that was wall to wall guns. The only thing I had no idea where I was, and slept during the drive.
But I have a question, while look, and feel is important, what about the power of the gun? I would think there is such a thing of a gun too powerful to be used as something ot learn from because of the kick back. At what point is too powerful begins?

Glock doesn't make a .22 (that's really more of a target practice plinking rifle round anyway). For a first Glock I'd recommend taking a look at the Model 19 compact or Model 26 subcompact both of which are 9mm. For concealed carry the 26 is hard to beat, but for home defense I'd go with the 19.Iman74 said:The safety class is tonight. That's a good question, but the answers are subjective. Factrors to include:Iman74 said:

- environment where you will use it (is the neighbor's house really close? Any danger of a stray round penetrating their home?)
- what fits your hands and feels natural there?
etc.
If you reload your own ammo, too, you can boost or reduce the powder to raise or lower the power.
Never a straightforward answer.

I am getting more and more confused about which direction to go: 22 or 9mm. I just got another recommendation to get a 22, and practice till I get really good, then move up.
Anyway, I am currently in the process of getting all the paperwork together: the hardest part is getting the chosen persons to fill it out, and get it to a Notary Public. The test was cake, and I am certain I passed. If I failed I would be extremely shocked. There was a woman in the class that was so scared from beginning to end, I though she was going to wet her pants. But in the end she did really well: personally I think I had the best results of target shooting.
Well still waiting for the wife to give me the yes or no to getting a gun. In the meantime, going to try to meet up with a friend of mine, and hopefully he has both a 22 and a 9mm, and I going to try both out and decide.
Also, the guy had tons of funny gun stories. Like how some guy used products from his company to clean it, and it literally disentegrated the gun. The instructor said that was impressive. How a nun owns a glock. The best was him busting on hollywood, and how Steven Seagal holds a gun in his movies. He says the hold is correct, but not the position of the hold. If you hold it where he does, the slide will hit you square in the head.

On a different note, let's put the gun talk to the side and discuss safety. I love my daughter to death, and I am not going to let what happen to her that happened to me. Except I was smart enough not to pull the trigger. When I was a child, I found both my dads hand guns, loaded, and in the same location. I also found his shotgun, with the bullets. Really stupid how they did it.
So with that said, and my previous experience here is my plan.
I want to get two of these, or something similar/better:

Big safes, while safe and really nice looking, or just overkill, and way too heavy for me. I am going to stick to my guns (no punt intended), and own at the very most two handguns. If I want to upgrade, I will sell the smaller of the two before doing so. So with that said here is my plan.
Get two of those lock boxes:
1. Has the gun(s). The gun itself is going to have a trigger lock, and a cable lock.
Box number two will have the ammo and the magazines, and maybe even the slide. The slide depends on how comfortable I am about removing, and reinserting that.
Anchor both boxes to a high out of sight location, so even if found, the person can't just take it with them, sit it on their lap while trying to get it open. I am going to make it as uncomfortable as possible. So for me it won't be a big deal. I will know what I need to know to open it, and get to a more comfortable position. As long as it keeps my daughter out of harms way I am happy.
So what do you think?

It sounds pretty good to me. When I had small children at home, I had a lock put on a closet door and then kept a relatively inexpensive, locked steel cabinet in the locked closet. (In fact, that's what I still do.)
Also, I have been fortunate enough to have a ranch at which to train my sons about guns and gun safety. They also got some third party safety instruction. (I think it's like driving - it helps to have some rules reinforced by hearing them from someone else.)

I finally purchased my gun
Can't take it home till I get my permit, but I can shoot it at the range whenever I want.

Very futuristic looking gun: I fell inlove with it as soon as I held it. Improved my shooting by at least 50% if not more. I also think going smaller caliber was a big help. I was doing okay with 9mm, but as soon as I shot my .22 Beretta, man my sets were pretty impressive for someone that only shot BB and Pellet guns all his life.
Well I am happy. I am going to make it my avavtar so you can all see.
I have to admit, it does look like a laser gun from a future Sci Fi flick: but who cares, I like it. A lot!
This site shows all they have: the black and blue one I like a lot, was not aware those existed, but hey all black suits me just fine.
