Fiance drove with parking brake on...

Hi All,

So this morning while we were digging out from last nights blizzard my fiance asked if she could drive my 2010 4Runner in the driveway to see how it handles in snow. Shes had a Jeep Wrangler for 10 years so I figured what the heck... Unfortunately, after five minutes of her driving back and forth in the driveway, she asked me why the dash was beeping at her. I investigated and caught wiff of a very faint smell of hot rubber. I then realized she was driving with the parking brake on... She thought the beeping meant the tires were slipping and losing traction in the unpacked snow.

Our driveway is no more than 60 feet but she was driving forward and in reverse for roughly five minutes. She couldn't have gone faster than 5 mph while doing this. What are your thoughts - think she did any damage??

Don't know about that, but you should pretend to be mad, until she makes it up to you. :girl:

Shouldn't have been too bad, but you'll have to replace the brakes in the rear faster now (It'll mean the brakes will have to be replaced in 8 years instead of 9 or something)

As long as the brake keeps holding, you should be ok.

My '98 had the emergency brake stuck on for the better part of a day before I got it unstuck, it still works fine.

Shouldn't be a big deal...you may have to adjust the tension on the cable if it isn't holding. I saw your winter pic post...where in CT are you? Almost all of the snow at my house in central CT blew to the end of my driveway, I had a nice 4 ft drift this morning.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I'm not going to worry about it too much but when I take it in next I'll have the mechanic check the brakes. The parking brake seems to be fine...I stopped on a hill and engaged the brake and it didn't lose its hold.

KevinG, I'm in Northwest Connecticut. My house is 1250 ft above sea level and we typically get more snow than down in the valleys. Although, we did not have 4 ft snow drifts!

Thanks Tilo, not going to let it bug me anymore. Everything seems to be in working order. And I wasn't mad at all...it was a stupid but innocent mistake. I was more worried about my 4Runner than getting upset or mad at my fiance.
