Noticed this empty storage compartment in my '03 SE... It has a couple of straps; any idea what goes in here?

Whatever you want.....maybe a recovery strap, some 3/4 shackles, ratchet straps, bungies, jumper cables, etc.

I have my trailer hitch ball mount in there, it fits pretty well and the straps hold it securely. Wrapped it with a rubber mat to keep the rattle noises down.

I think that I remember a thread about this that determined it was where the factory trailer hitch ball-mount went when equipped with such.

I keep a tow strap and work gloves in there as I has a separate case to hold a ball-mount, locking receiver pin, and 7-to-4 pin adapter.

This may not apply to your '03 but I have an '02.

When I bought my truck, it originally had a fire extinguisher mounted with both straps holding it. It looks exactly like yours but mine mounted to the side whereas yours will lay down. But I guess you can use it for whatever you like.
I believe they came factory with either a Med-Kit or an extinguisher.

I think that's where my stock subwoofer is. I have the JBL Synthesis system. Guessing yours is not equipped with that?

Yeah it's where the JBL subwoofer is, so in non-JBL models it's just storage.

It can be removed by trimming a couple of plastic pieces and the JBL speaker grille clips in. I would assume it's just used as storage so they didn't have to make two different molds for the entire part.

As stated above, the trailer hitch was mounted in there on my previous 04, brand new, first owner. Now I keep what ever in it on the 08.

Acually I have boxes of ammo and stinger flashlight charger in mine. And a coffee mug so I know I have one when I go camping.

Tow strap, hitch, hot hands, spare pair of gloves, extension cord, various other items. . .flashlight. . Berreta 92-FS. Just depends on what I'm doing that week.
