Finally 15 Postsss - New 15' TRD Pro Owner

Hey guys, just made a jump to the 2015 Attitude Black TRD Pro after trading in my Ibis White 2013 Audi S5. This will be my first SUV/Truck type vehicle since my past cars have been (white 98' Honda Prelude SH, Black 2005 Infiniti G35, and White 2013 Audi S5) haha white-black-white-now black again! I've always been into coupes and fixing them up but have always enjoyed driving bigger body vehicles whenever I get the chance to. Just no particular vehicles have ever made me take the jump up until recently seeing the newer Jeep cherokees like the SRT haha, the new 4door wrangler rubicons, and ofc the new 4Runners after they updated the look to be more aggressive. So I went ahead and made the jump to the T4R side haha so far I am liking it. Will post a pics of old ride and new ride.

But first question:

1) the TRD Pro didn't come with running boards, so I was wanting to get some. Which ones do you guys recommend? I've seen 'rock sliders' and such all over the forums but since I am a Truck/SUV noobie, I didn't know the difference

2) In TX, What do you guys think would be a good tint combo for the black on black on black on black on black beast I have now haha

1. Rock Sliders if you're actually going to use them. You use these to pivot off of rocks, use them as a means to travel over terrain regular running boards would just tear off in. Also great as side protection. Do some research on the different companies. Then theres stuff like N-Fab that "look" like sliders with built in steps but they're not sliders. They're running boards that don't look like "wife" steps.

2. Get the darkest tint allowable. I don't know your laws so check them out before you put limousine tint on only being forced to remove it later down the road.

Beautiful truck.

Edit: I'm not saying don't get real sliders if your'e never going to use them for what they're designed for, sliders are heavier and most don't have a step if thats a necessity. N-Fab actually makes a slider that you can purchase removable steps for which I think is a great idea.

Thanks! I just looked up the N-Fab T1464R. They're matte black steps, and from google images, looks good on the black T4Rs.

Any recommendations for all weather mats other than the dealer ones? I've seen the Husky brand thrown around here and there, just wondering if there are other ones to consider.
 
Weather Tech and Husky. WT looks nicer, they're more expensive, but both do the exact same thing. You'll find positive and negative opinions on both. I have Husky and I live in Utah. Never once has snow, water, dirt or mud escaped.
 
For the tint, 35% is lowest allowed for the front legally in TX.

That being said, I had a 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab and it was black on black and I had 35% on the front and factory on back. I thought 35% was dark enough especially considering everything was black on that truck.
 
Welcome!! If your getting a cargo liner don't go weather tech, the husky one goes all the way around the cargo area. Looks nice dosnt move around ect.
 
Congrats man, that's a nice color pattern of getting rides. I agree with 35% tint for Texas weather, should looks good with your black 4R.
 
I prefer the husky, it seems they are heavier than the weather tech and have the trap pattern pretty high for the spills. the WT seems like they have a lip, over the entrance of your vehicle to step in protecting the 1/2 gap at the door it seems. I have the Husky:thumb3: NIce truck was thinking of getting a 5th gen

~As others have said for sliders, ditto. If youre going to to use them get them, otherwise, steps look better than boards. I'm still looking for some I like. My local Toyota dealer only offers boards or 1500$ steps. So no go there

~ Tint, legal limit dark, I'm in FL, you're in TX, so thermal tinting is the way to go. I've got to strip the cheap stuff out of mine ASAP, I'm catching a tan riding around.
 
Nice switch. I have somewhat made a similar one. Have always been into sports cars but something about the 4Runner was just calling my name.
 
That's a great looking T4R! Welcome from Houston!

I am with the others and 35% is the legal limit on front windows, you can go as dark as you like on the rest..
 
I'm also in TX and just put a deposit down on a 2016 TE (black). Factory tinting will be limo black in the back and one shade lighter in the front (for legal reasons, this is the max you can do without a ticket in TX).

Guess I should point out that my last vehicle (a 2004 Toyota Matrix) had this same tinting and never had an issue with law enforcement. If you happen to encounter a cop who has the measuring device on him during a traffic stop, it's pretty clear he's just being a dick about it as most cops could care less.
