Finally...4Runner in my garage...WOW

WOW...that's all I can really say. WOW. I picked up my 4 runner thursday and barely had time to enjoy it before I was off to Manhattan to move my sister out of her apartment. I returned home to enjoy it for a day before we head off to New Hampshire for a few days. I really wish I could bring it on our trip, but too much highway for the engine break in.

I have around 200 miles on it now and I am very impressed. I have never enjoyed a vehicle this much right away, it usually takes me a while to get used to the quirks.

Wow, I never realized how much the 4Runner resembles a Chevy Trailblazer. I see a lot of similarity in the front view design of those two vehicles.

Here are some of the similar styling elements that I see....

1- Overall shape of the front end. Both have similar blocky lines.

2- Look at the way the front fenders flare out over the wheels on both vehicles.

3- Similar hood contours, although the leading edge of the Trailblazer hood is much more pronouned.

4- General shape of the headlights. Both vehicles have an inward sloping "angry eyebrows" look to them.

5- Manufacturer emblems inside a horizontal chrome bar that bisects the grille area. Just shorten the one on the Trailblazer and it would really resemble the Toyota piece.

6- Both vehicles have similar vertical styling elements on each side of the license plate cut-outs. On both vehicles, it gives the appearance of a pseudo brushguard type look.

7- Even the foglights are in a similar location. If the Trailblazer had lenses inboard of the foglights (for day time running lamps & turn signals) it would be even closer in appearance.

after owning the trailblazer for 9 years and the 4runner for 4 days I can say that they are very different in function and appearance. The 4runner has a much more aggressive stance and sits a few inches higher. I feel like I have better road visibility. The hood is longer and is more visible when driving. I feel like the 4 runner is everything a redesigned trailblazer should have been. Interior room is much better, the seats have more legroom front and back. Headroom in the back seat is not great due to the sunroof, but I did not have one on the trailblazer.

The trailblazer was horrible off road. I got stuck in my back yard many times. The 4x4 system was always breaking and having issues. The limited slip rear dif would not work most of the time. Today I tried to get stuck in the same spots I was stuck in last week....no worries as the 4runner did not even struggle. What a difference.

The design of the chevy was good, but the parts it was made from were cheap. I had so many repair issues over 90K miles, including a new motor (warranty). My wife has a camry with 40k trouble free miles. I hope the 4runner will be the same.

I will be putting a few coats of ziano on when it gets a little warmer around here!!

ckon, I am very interested in your S2000 antenna...was this a direct swap? The antenna just hits my garage door and it would be great to have one a bit smaller. I also need to do something about the weak horn.

Yeah, I have two close friends who both own Trailblazers. They are basically a piece of shit, IMO. I'm just saying that the new 4Runner's styling resembles the Trailblazer's appearance from the front. I wasn't making a comparison in any other way.

You've already got that - it's part of the stock Toyota mount that's already attached to your truck. It doesn't get removed. You only replace the mast, not the whole assembly.

Now I am feeling like going and test drive one. My dealer keeps asking me if I wanna trade in mine to get a 2010. But I am not ready for a new one yet...plus mines is staying with us for ever.

No, you have to lengthen the screw. I think (not positive, though) that it was for a 2000. Good luck - hope all works well.
