Finally did it! Upgraded to 5th gen 20" limited wheels!

I can feel the weight difference when driving, but not by much. Something you really can't avoid when you're adding 3" larger wheels. The smoother ride and looks are definitely worth the sacrifice.

Of course these are a direct bolt on 6 lug / 6 lug.
The 5th gen offset is +12 / 4th gen is +30.

Direct bolt on, no modifications necessary. Only issues are either swapping the TPMS or turning off the sensor dash light, and also remembering that the larger tire size will add ~3% to your MPH. My plan is to swap in the TPMS once I need new tires and do the TPMS sensor mod to turn off the annoying blinking light on my dash.

stock height. The larger sidewalls on the tires did add some extra clearance. When I get new tires I'll most likely stick to the stock diameter which is 255/50 R20.
larger sidewalls? Are your new tires bigger than 255/50 20s? Your stock tires should have had a larger side wall. 255/50 20 is the same height as your older 265/65 17s, but you have thinner side walls on the 20s because the wheel is larger.
As for weight, I doubt you would notice any difference. The wheels would weigh maybe 5 lbs pounds more, but your tires will weigh less. It is almost a wash. With a 3 inch wheel increase, you should notice a big handling difference. It should feel much stiffer. Maybe that is what you are feeling.

The tires are the stock 245/60 R20 that originally came on the 5th gen limited which are a larger diameter/thinner tread then the stock limited tires I had on. I will install 255/50 20 when I have to get new tires. I did notice a small difference when accelerating, larger wheel/tires = more rotational mass. The ride is better, but then again I had over 50k miles on the last set of tires before I swapped.

both the 3rd gen and 4th are work issued trucks and the 5th is purchased
Heres my stable
Hummer wannabe feel to start with. small windshield high flat limited width dash and the overly super cheap plastic look and the outside is just really square to me no aerodynamics. Understand its a truck not a sports car but put some round edge on it so it doesn't feel like a billboard sigh on wheels at 70
The big knobby buttons every where I mean they are ridiculously to big (asians way of making fun of americans)
when you fold the back seat down its not level or flat.
for some reason when you get into it you need the oh shit handle to get in and sit unlike every other 4 runners you can just step in and sit. I am not short and even I need the running boards which should not be an option but standard due to height
The stereo is lacking major power compared to the non jbl versions of the 4th gen which rock with a head unit up grade.
They removed the mirrors from the back that aloud you to see your blind stops from the rear view mirrors.
The braking system is complete garbage. You almost feel like you trying to stop a semi throw on the A/C and its just much worse. Toyotas and Lexus always stopped like champs best braking out of most manufacturers not sure what happened this time.
The super sloppy I feel like I am on a raft in a ocean storm feel when taking corners the roll is horrible and almost down right dangerous when trying to take a curve at the recommended speed, add the lack luster brakes into it and its a receipt for disaster. Drove from Chicago to Tennessee 7 hrs drive once we got to the property, I get rid of the human talk radio and one of two dogs and drove all the way back home to get my 4th gen worked out well then i was able to rail the curves even with a 500lb sport bike on the hitch carrier in back
The head lights annoy me for some reason IMO they dont blend well at the top corner where they have that little ledge
The gas mileage for some reason sucks. 4th gen I can do the over 400 miles on one tank at 85 the whole time mind you with 170,000 the 5th gen nope barely 300 if I am lucky with 12000 miles on it.
Don't get me wrong its not a bad truck just not one for me. I like a truck where I can feel whats going on with the roads and not get the feelings its going to roll on me, precision in turns while being able to have some form of confidence with it on non paved roads or made up roads a lot of times in my case.
And the number one and biggest complaint is the sitting position granted you can adjust it in many ways still but it doesn't fix the weird and unnatural feeling of the gas pedal, your foot and leg actually gets tired on log drives. I am not sure how to explain it. i want to say the pedal forces your foot to push with your leg straight down as opposed to being able to rest your knee against the lower portion of the dash if that makes sense
in the 4th gen 12 hrs drives no problem leg isn't tired, 3 hrs in the 5th I am not the only on has said the same thing about it or needed to get out and stretch the leg for 10 mins.
If it were up to me I would not have bought it had I had a day to actually notice most of the stuff before signing the dotted line

There is going to be more than a 5lb. weight difference when going from a 17" OEM wheel to a 20" OEM wheel. To use FJs as an example, there's a 10lb. weight difference between the OEM 17s / OEM 20s. Depending on the tire they should weight about the same maybe a 1-2lbs. less, so I wouldn't call 8-9lb. of added un-sprung weight almost a wash.
It depends on the wheels and the tires. Over all, it is a wash. You are not going to feel the difference. You feel the difference in the loss of sidewall, but not the weight.

I seem to see these 5th gen limited wheels on Craigslist all the time. And many times, they'll be at a reasonable price for wheels and tires. I've always wondered how'd they'd look on a 4th Gen. Looks a lot better than I thought it would. I always thought the 3rd and 4th gen had rounder edges. The 5th is super boxy and edgy so the rims look great on it. I didn't think the large straight 5-star rim would appear correct on a 4th, but I think it works just fine!
Another thing I can't buy into is the 20" side. But, if I had a city ride, I might run with that size.
