Finally got around to removing my running boards

Ive been meaning to do this for a while and finally got around to removing them today. I like the look...something different for a while....

Only time I use running boards are to clean/dry the roof of the car. Therefore, I'm keeping mine!

I kinda beat the crap out of my running boards, so I had to take them off. I also have sliders on the way.

The missus decided to kiss one of those poles at the gas station island and wrenched off the running board a bit and scraped up the cladding.

So while I look for someone in NoVA to fabricate sliders I will just pull 'em the heck off!

Are the running boards as simple to remove as seen in the pics above? Just the bolts?

Im wanting to remove mine too but it's nice cause even the youngest (2 yrs old) can climb in the truck by herself! Winter is on it's way though and I see them being a slip hazard and a good way to get your pants dirty when they have a bunch of snow built up on the sides of them! New project!!

Super easy! 6 bolts per board. Took me 10 minutes to remove mine.

Yup, this is true. I had the trail tear up my running boards (knew it was gonna happen the moment I bought the truck, they lasted a good time before getting pretzeled! ) then on went the sliders! Just as good as running boards (depending on the design, mine stick out enough to step on with the doors open) but lots tougher!

Obstacle Removing Running Boards

I am attempting to remove them right now. The driver's side rear two bolts once removed the attachment is welded to the frame. I am going to cut through to remove it.

The passenger side front attachment has one bolt that has a weld nut up in the frame and won't spin free. It also had a small screw in between to hold it in place. I removed the screw and one of the bolts. I was thinking about just sawing that bolt off but don't want the end with the weld nut rattling in there.

Does anyone know how to access the back of the bolt inside the frame or have any suggestions?

Weird. What year? If you don't plan on reinstalling later just cut that shit.

It's a 2004. I took your advice and cut the welded part off with a dremel and cut the bolt with the weld nut with a small saw. The weld nut shot back up but luckily it isn't rattling around during driving...at least that I can hear.

Is anyone selling the running boards they are taking off, and if so, what is a typical asking price?

That's unusual to have them welded on. They're usually held on by bolts.

As for resale, the only ones that have value are the ones with lights in them (I think usually on the Limited edition).
