FINALLY! Got my door fixed and put on!

For Christmas I got a new door for the Runner since mine had a Grand Canyon sized dent. I got it painted for a great price and my boyfriend finally put it on yesterday!

I'm so excited but the only thing is the paint is way brighter than the rest, of course. Would a good detail with a buffing brighten the other paint or what are some other suggestions?

a buff would help, but its not uncommon for a panel painted off of the car to not match perfect. really the door should have been jammed, then installed, then painted and blended into the rest of the truck to make it perfect. Try a good buff, if it still doesn't match, take it to the shop that did the paint and talk to them about blending things in, maybe they will work w/ you.

Buffing really isn't going to do much. Blending is the only way to come close and even then it isn't always perfect.

That sucks. The guy I had paint the door seemed to know what he was doing..I wish he would have put it on and then painted it.

Yep. It definitely looks better without the huge dent in there though.

Perhaps you could do a little blending yourself, you know, 4x4 action in the brush country. :artist: Just a suggestion.

I think it looks good. There are so many shades of white and everyones will change different over time. An easy way is to leave your gas filler door and a painter can match it pretty good to your exact color. That way they can do a better paint job to a disassembled door like you had done. I prefer painting parts that are stripped and off of the car.

Its certainly better then a dent and you can always ask the guy that did it why it is not exact and maybe he will blend it while on the car for free.

how does the paint feel on the other door and fender? If it is really rough feeling, then a buff, or wetsand and buff, might make a LOT of difference.

I had a bottle of touch up paint from Toyota that I gave him and I gave him the color code too.

It doesn't match just because the other paint has faded over the years and this is a fresh door. Weird thing is, it matches the front fender perfectly but not the back door or paneling..lol

I'm very OCD about my Runner and I'm so happy its finally fixed just because I hated driving it looking the way it did. At least now its fixed and I can work on doing other things to it.

Sounds like the painter blended it into the fender, which is a common practice.

It's all a matter of degrees.

Due to a Nor'easter (nasty ^%$# storm with winds from the NE) a contractors scaffolding collapsed and put a huge dent in my front fender. I took it to a collision repair shop recommended by a friend who is a car enthusiast and only does things the "right way"

The repair on the fender is impeccable. They took off all the cladding on the fender and door before removing them and the hood for painting.

When I picked up the truck, I was amazed. I almost forgot which side got wacked. It was not cheap for the contractor. Repair bill was almost 1k.
