Finally got to test the 4wd today

Got to work today and the guy thats working with me has a 2wd ranger and decided to drive down through the mud...if you know anything about construction site mud, it sucks...needless to say he was also on a hill...I decided to go get my 4runner...the tires that are on it are 4/32, which means I'm only twice the limit for inspection...we hook up and I'm just in 4hi and I spun slightly, put it in 4lo and she crawled up through the mud with another vehicle in tow...ive read everyone's muddin stories but wow!!! It's just easy for the 4runner even with low tread...just thought I'd share...I am gettin tires for it in 2 weeks, still debating on the falken rocky mountain a/t, any suggestions? I'm keepin the truck stock for now

I really liked my Hankooks... they were inexpensive and did surprising well off road. I only got rid of them to got to a LT vs a P tire.

oh its definitely the best vehicle i've owned so far...its just an all-around beast

I bought Falken Rocky Mountain ATS 265 70 17s about a month ago. So far so good, they are surprisingly quiet on the highway and responsive around town. It has been dry in Minneapolis for the month so no mud yet but I fear snow will arrive before soon (40* F this morning).

All the reading I did about the Falken RMs (and the same Wild Peak AT) were extremely positive especially in the mud and snow, even though they are not MT tires. I would highly recommend the Falkens.

I can second the falkens. I have had them for a few months now and 6000k and they do really well. I have been in some decent mud and had no issues at all. So far for the price its a great tire.

I went with Hankook Dynapro ATM's and have ~8-10k on them. I also thought they were just as quite at the Highway tires that came on it prior and have done a fair amount of dirt/gravel/snow and they handled amazing! Especially in the snow compaired to the highway tires it was crazy how much more control and grip I had (was plowing through 8" of fresh powder doing 30 and I was in full control at all times)

I have had some fun in the mud, but haven't had it in any supper sloppy yet, just pools with hard pack below and it handled great with only minor slipping and the truck handled the rest. The price is good and I'm really happy with them. The aggressive tread looks sweet too. Good Luck on the search!
