Finally Installed DT Long Tubes

Ive finally installed my doug thorley headers on thursday in about 6 hours. i took my time to not screw anything up. ive got some picks attach. when i took the stock headers off i tied a paper towel to the sensor and PB blasted the towel wet then began to work on the other header.(this way it had alot of time to soak the sensor). i did the when i removed the second header and started to remove the sensor on the first one. i had remove all the studs as well. i had placed some rtv glue around the header and gasket just in case of any leaks and installed the headers. i had threw the headers on and had a friend hold them until i re-studed them with blue loctite while the headers where on the block (for clearance issues, tip from mike07*). torq the nuts to 20 and bottom flanges (connector to y pipe) 45. correct specs where 16/46 (i found it from a pdf at XR underground with the corresponding link http://ncttora.com/fsm/05+/data/ileaf/06toyrm/06toypdf/06rmsrc/rm2006ta/00701410.pdf)

none of the sensors galled up on me, i was so relieved (others had problems with galling sensors)

*after installing the headers i installed the o2 sim....on the urd instructions one of the wires were to connect to a pin# with a certain color(white with green stripes?, although i attach to the pin# the color was different (brown). so far no problems:thumb3:

for a more thorough installation write up check out http://www.xr-underground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5553&highlight=o2+sim+writeup . even though its for the taco's its fairly the same. just a few minor differences but mostly the same.

stock headers i gotten ~20.1mpg
with DT Long tubes(without o2 sim) i gotten ~23 (10 mile trip, driving conservative)
with 02 sim so far ~19 mpg (10 mile's, although ive been agressive on the pedal)

personally, i think i lost low end, im not so sure about high end, i remember hitting 15-45 in second gear pretty fast (~2 secs maybe?)

the borla exhaust is actually worth it after having headers, its much more agressive/loud. (stock with just borla was very quiet)

DT Headers

I'm very Jealous. I've been waiting on the word from someone that was organizing a 4.7L V8 group purchase. I have the modding fever. I had the "go really fast on my motorcycle" bug but I took care of that. Headers would be nice to install in the next few weeks. Then Headlights, and someone can sell me a 4.7L V8 supercharger...

Dude that's awesome you finally got them on! Glad to hear that you didn't have any issues with the sensors galling up.

i thought i had a leak but i checked, nothing. but there is some kinda grinding noise during accelerations(with load), i think its coming from the tranny though. or maybe i just started to notice it? i also thought it cud be just the valves resonating with the headers, i dont really know lol...but its very noticible. runing it for 500miles and no prob yet
