Finally installed the K&N intake

We finally had some nice weather here in Missouri, so I dug out the box with the K&N intake I'd purchased last fall (!). Already had a K&N drop-in filter. It's the Series 63 with the plastic tube instead of metal. Took about an hour to install dinking around. Fit was nice, all the parts were included, and the holes for connectors and the MAF sensor were predrilled (actually threaded metal inserts molded into the plastic). Couldn't find one little lock washer, so I substituted another. When I was installing the last large hose, I found it....it had gotten stuck in the end of the the large hose when all the parts were packaged together. Don't know if it would have caused any problems if I hadn't noticed it.

Engine started up immediately after putting the neg. terminal back onto the battery. I've got both the TRD exhaust and now the K&N intake, but both are very quiet at idle (can't even hear anything) and low throttle. But they sure come to life and roar under heavy throttle! Overall, engine feels peppier especially under hard acceleration. I think the intake adds just enough sound (just a little bit) that it actually balances out the sound from the rear and I no longer notice the little bit of drone from the exhaust at certain rpms (about 1700). So now I've got noisemakers at either end! :p

Nice, I have the same setup and also love the sound. As you get some miles on it it'll sound even better. For me, I had the exhaust on first and went about a couple thousand miles before putting the intake on. Didn't really notice any performance gain wtih it, but when the intake was put on it felt a little peppier. The sound makes it all worth it though.

I've had the TRD exhaust since late October and just installed the intake. Sounds like we did it about the same (exhaust first, then mileage, then installed intake). Only put about 2000 miles on the vehicle since the exhaust was installed. I've heard that the exhaust will change over time, but do you think anything will change with my set-up and the with the time frame it was installed?

I drove about 60 miles on the highway and was getting higher readings on the mpg computer. I know those things aren't accurate, but it's the absolute difference between the readings that can give some information. Readings were about 1 mpg higher and I kept my foot out of the gas pedal.

I love the sound of the intake, i installed mine a few months ago.. makes me think i'm faster:D best part is seeing the looks on other peoples faces when i step on it to pass somebody specially imports:p not bashing on imports, i came from the import scene as well.. hay good times... i'm done with exhaust though, probably won't put one, i'm glad you like the combination you have now...... i don't even want to know what my gas mileage is right now, i got a heavy foot.

I wonder what actual hp gains are from the exhaust/intake combo? Almost went to a dyno place before the intake installation to see the baseline with the exhaust installed. From what I've heard, maybe 10 hp from the exhaust alone, maybe 10 or so from the intake alone, but don't know gains are from the combo of the two. I figure they probably work synergistically (how's that for a $2 buck word) :p but the scientist in me doesn't have any hard data to examine.

You should have gone!:p All i know is by putting an intake and exhaust you lose some low end power but gain on top end
