Well, found a 97 5spd 4x4 sr5 close by. So today I went to look at it today. Drove it around for about an hour on a test drive and it rode great. Has a small lift, maybe 2" with a good set of cooper discoverys. Ended up making a deal I could live with and took it home. It's got some issues that need to be addressed, both cv axles need replacing as they are leaking as well as the rear axle on the drivers side.


The one thing that is driving me crazy is the 4x4 system. 4 lo engages as it should, dash light comes on and the front diff kicks in. 4h on the other had does nothing. No light, no action in the front diff. Did a search here on the form and checked the vsv's and had vacuum where I should, so I crawled under and found a loose wire on the tc but I can't see anywhere to attach it. Anyone have any suggestions?

At this point u have probably already looked in the general area of those unhooked wires and didn't find anything. I would check each color of those wires and try to locate them on a wiring schematic which will give u locations of each component the wires attach to. Not sure if this is the correct schematic but it would be a example of what I am talking about when using the color of each wire to locate components in which they connect to.

That's a sharp looking truck. Good luck with the 4wd issue. Don't forget you might be able to get away with just rebooting the cvs instead of replacing. The oem axles are good steel from what I've read and you could save yourself some coin by just doing the boots.

Thanks, its got its flaws, but I wasn't after a show queen. I went ahead and replace both c axles today. They were not that bad as far as price, and I'm going to have the old ones rebuilt and will be but back in if these ever go out. Still didn't do anything to the 4x4. Crawled all over looking for somewhere to plug that wire into with no luck. There are 2 other plug going into the tc, both are hooked up. Thats as far as I went. Just have to figure which side is for the hi and which is the lo.
