Finally my Shrockworks sliders have arrived

After a long wait, order placed on June 29th and arrived on Sept 16th, my Shrockworks sliders have arrive.

The packaging was fantastic and they arrived safely despite UPS beating this box all to hell.

Anyhow, here are a few shots. The install was very straight forward on my 2016 TE and only took a few hours, no drilling was required for my install.

I am absolutely blown away at the quality of these and would definitely recommend them!

Nice. I installed mine a few weeks ago. Although I'm very curious to know how you got by without needing to drill any holes. I have a 2016 TE and had to drill 3 holes. I had to drill one hole into the driver side front transmission crossmember and two for the passenger front transmission crossmember. Now you could simply get by with the side bolts that go into the frame but there were clearly spots on the angled front bracket that needed holes to be drilled. In the instructions those might not have been "required" if they're more for looks and to be used as a step but highly recommended for off road use.

Is there any trimming of body panels required for a '16 SR5?

No trimming required. The only thing with these sliders is that drilling into the frame or transmission crossmember may be required and using the stick nuts can be a little interesting.

Anything you order from Shrockworks is made to order and requires some lead time. They are too small an operation to be able to keep a quantity in stock and ready to ship. Possibly they simply don't have the space available to store ready made stock? Every bumper manufacturer we can use pretty much has some lead time required for orders with the exception of ARB (who sells worldwide).

Their reputation for quality seems to keep 99% of their customers willing to accept the wait though. Perhaps you'd like to contact them and offer them a 6 figure investment to allow them to expand and get some stuff in ready stock?

2-3 months is not bad at all. Other fabricators have 3-6 month wait times for their products and a certain roof rack fabricator on this forum has a 12-15 month wait time. I have a set of their sliders and it's really top notch and I had no problem waiting especially with the group buy savings.

You are correct about he transmission crossmember holes. I talked with the guys at Shrockworks and the driver side is fine with the one threaded bolt on the crossmember and they also said it would be totally fine not the drill the holes on the passenger side. They mentioned that most of their sliders for other vehicles only bolt to the frame on the sides and the bottom ones on the front for the 4Runner are optional. Lastly, I don't plan on doing anything too crazy so I feel confident that it will be fine. These things are on here ROCK SOLID and I even tested it by jacking up the passenger side using a floor jack on the slider and there was zero flex.

I understand it's the norm with many of the fabricators serving us. I guess my point is something is wrong with the supply chain. Either these companies are incapable of anticipating demand, can't get or retain the personnel, use inefficient processes for manufacturing....whatever it is....maybe a combo of all. I'm waiting on a bumper from CBI now. Good communication but website said 3-4 weeks to ship...I'm at 7 weeks now. That's my point....it's an industry ripe for a disruptor if someone can make good margins on these things. Just a mild rant...not picking on any one company.

Or maybe there's something wrong with your expectations. These things aren't made in China. They aren't put together on an assembly line by undocumented workers. Metal fabrication is not glamorous, nor easy and requires hard work and talent to do. It's probably not that lucrative either as its a niche market. However people do it because for them it's likely a hobby and profession that they enjoy seeing the finished product. To expect instant gratification and perfection is beyond ridiculous. Perhaps you should be the one that pioneers the metal fab industry since it's so ripe for opportunity.

It might be a group buy/parts supply/specific bumper configuration causing the delay. It could even be a time of year ordered deal. A lot of these companies have events they attend from spring through summer, and with the all hands on deck aspect those things create that could affect production times. SSO was not even able to access their shop for a week or so because of the flooding in the Baton Rouge area a month ago, and they're having to work production in around shop repairs.

I know this doesn't help your particular situation, but I had my bare bones powder coated CBI rear bumper almost 2 weeks to the day after ordering it early this year. I wasn't expecting it for at least another week when my local shop called me to let me know it had arrived. And it had to ride a freight truck from Idaho to the gulf coast. On those it may be possible they keep a few base bumpers built but the swing out bumpers need more lead time. But who really knows except the manufacturer?

I do sympathize with your wait. I was the same way for my SSO front bumper but it was in anticipation of the product, not the wait. You'll be like a kid on Christmas day when it does get there.

I don't think you need to be apologetic for pointing out that some of the wait times on parts are ridiculous. Shrockworks advertises using CAD/Computer Controlled Laser and Plasma Cutters, etc. Once the initial design is done they should be building a "jig" so they can reproduce these parts easily. Welding in a jig, cleaning up the part, and spraying with paint or bed liner shouldn't take long.

If the business were being run well, they would be anticipating demand based on past sales trends and current marketing, would be investing back in the company to grow to meet demand, and would be working on improving efficiencies in their manufacturing process. I've got nothing against Shrockworks, but for as long as I have been a member of this forum people have been waiting a long time for parts from them... nothing has gotten better.
