Finally picked up my new welder aaaand it doesn't work

I picked up a Hobart 210 this weekend and was trying feed the wire today. Turned it on, fan kicks on but when I pulled the trigger it just clicks. I can't call customer service until tomorrow, so I am just seeing if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime.

I barely have a working understanding of welders, but check the feed assembly ~ take the tension off Completely, pull the trigger to make sure the drive is working. If the drive is working, then make sure you have the feed roller in the right place for the wire you have (solid vs flux core and Maybe size of wire), then set the tension correctly and try again.

Will wire feed through it? The mig wire has to pulled through the gun to work. Mostly you can hear the wire motor when you pull the trigger.

I had to open up the box and access where the ''montherboard'' is located, and there was a 3 prong, small white connector that was disconnected from factory. Plugged it and closed up the box, then built a new trailer

I pushed the wire a few inches into the beginning of the welding gun line to get it started, I didn't feed it all the way to the trigger. The wire motor doesn't do anything. I just hear a click when I squeeze the trigger. Does it need it fed to the trigger? The directions weren't real clear. Ill get me some coffee and take another look at at this morning before a call. Thanks kind sir!

LOL, I needed coffee. I had the switch on spool gun instead of mig gun.

That’s not too bad I guess….. there’s always worse right? Worked with the guy once that destroyed every single consumable we had For our millermatic While we left him alone at the shop for a service call. Apparently shielding gas was not something he quite understood. The best part though was when the boss made him regrind everything smooth and before I actually welded the second time.

That guy was something else, I mean it was a small town Ag shop, he was a new guy, and I think he just thought all you did was pull the trigger. None of us ever quizzed him to see if he actually knew what the hell he was doing. Lol.

I bought a used Millermatic 140 off a Marine here locally a few years ago that had it set up for solid wire and no gas, and had been welding on his Harley with it. Had the solid wire drive roller in the feeder the and a roll of solid wire in the machine, and was missing the gas nozzle just like flux core would be set up. I tried hinting before I bought it that it’s not a good idea to run it like that, but he was cocky and did not give a flying f*ck about my input. I wonder if that dude is still alive! His bike provably fell apart doing freeway speeds. There’s a reason flux cored wire exists!

I don't care for Flux core myself. I know lots of folks swear by it for rusty metal. However, I don't care for it as the splatter is 10x worse. Welds don't seem to be as good. I like the sound of welding with shield gas as I can tell by the sound how the weld is doing. Being you don't want oxygen at your weld point to begin with, I just don't see the need myself. That's just me though...

I love my Hobart 210. When I got it the solo kid in the back for the gas was wired wrong so I wasn’t getting any gas. Took a couple hours to figure that out then she worked like a charm!
