Finally took them off!

Well after much deliberation and looking at a number of your guys trucks I decided to take the boards off today after work. I think it makes the truck look taller. Opinions welcome! Thanks to all for the inspiration! haha

4runsport I like the look but I am also debating because I have a 2yr old daughter. Part of me wants to take them off and the other to leave them. For sure though it looks good, it does give you the illusion that is taller.

yeah that looks sweet i need to take mine off especially since the one on the passenger side is bent, but i think the fender flares i have (black plastic) are the worst for taking off the boards. will look like something is missing.

Haha yeah they definitely do suck! The back of my pants always got dirty or snow on them or whatever else the tires kicked up.

I thought the same thing about it looking taller. I was looking into a lift to give a taller appearance but without the boards I feel like I gained a few inches. As for your daughter... install one of those electric steps that come out from underneath when the door is opened :bigok:

NOOOOO!!! Put them back on! Its all down hill from here. Thats where I started. Took the running boards off..now im lifted with 35's!!You wallet is going to hate you lol. Looks good though!

Looks great! Those running boards were good at keeping the rock chips from occuring on your rocker panels. This is your excuse to get some sliders and add plates to them to keep the chips down. Tell the accounting controller of the family that it's now urgent as a cost preventative measure for the 4Runner

Yep, say good bye to that nice paint...you can see in your last couple of pics where its going to get fked up.

I took mine off a week ago and wife complains having a hard time getting in the 4Runner. Now it is back on. Unless you do a lot of hardcore off-road driving, taking them off will not benefit you other than the " looks."

Without the boards, the wife says my 4Runner looks like wearing a mini-skirt :biggrin2:. Yes. I like the way it looks without them. No. If you are talking about daily driving comfort ( short wife/kids getting in and out of the vehicle, that is ) .

Yeah, understand the whole kid thing, I have a 3 year old boy, and mine has about a 4" lift in the back too... I took my running boards off and sold them. I always thought I would keep em on and liked it better, but I prefer them off now.

As far as the kids go, they arent gonna be putting themselves in their carseat for awhile yet anyways so, I figure I gotta lift him up anyways.

i took my "woman boards" of my truck and it has a more aggresive stance. i also took the rear mud flaps off.

i wont have the wife/kids problem for awhile on account of me beinga 16 year old. so a 3 inch lift is in order.

I definitely like the sans board look. I took mine off my 4th gen shortly after getting it. My neighbor has an '01 3rd gen that took me forever to convince to take off and finally did and loves it.

Taking the running boards off was one of the first things I did. But, that was because I intended to do some off-roading. They are not feasible if you are doing so flexing. I have since installed rock sliders. Plus it makes a major difference in the looks.

This is why I don't do it. With my 3.5 year old its nice. I can open the door and he can climb up on the running boars then climb into the truck and put himself in his seat. Then I just have to snap him in.
