Finally! Used TRD Supercharger... Do I Have What I Need?

After a couple years of wanting one, watching for used ones, contemplating buying one of Magnuson's un-branded re-issues, saving $, I finally picked up a used 2nd gen TRD Supercharger. :whoo:

It appears to be pretty much immaculate. Previous owner said approximately 25K on it. He clearly took very good care of his equipment. He also threw in his TRD boost gauge, so I'm pretty happy.

I have ordered GM supercharger oil and plan to change it prior to install. I will also run a compression test on my 4Runner to confirm engine is sound, but I'm pretty confident it's in good shape. Ordered Denso IK22 Iridium plugs.

My truck: 2000 4Runner SR5, 5-speed manual, 3.4 V6

Before I start install, I want to make sure I have all the parts I'll need. So, I took a picture of everything that came with it, and pulled the picture of everything I'll need from this thread and matched my hardware with the picture. I have noted numerically the parts I'm not sure about:

supercharger-parts.jpg

1. Not sure about this bolt? It looks closer in size to the pair I have in the center of my picture.

2. I think these are the throttle body bolts? Not sure why there are 4 of them, I have 2 plus 2 double-end threaded that appear intended to attach the throttle body.

3. Don't have anything like these, unless they are the bolts to attach the throttle cable bracket? In that case, the bracket is already attached to the Supercharger, but only needs 2 bolts.

4. Don't have any bolts like these, unless they are already attached somewhere?

5. Don't have this little bolt.

6. Don't have a throttle body gasket. Can I re-use the one that's in the car? Or should I pick up a new one? OK to use non-OEM?

7. Don't have these nuts. Maybe they are for the throttle body bolts?

My other big question is the throttle cable bracket. Does the bracket already attached (photo below) look like the correct bracket for a 2000 4Runner? I only have a single cable running across the top of my engine right now.

Here are some other pictures of the Supercharger:

Thanks for any advice!

#1 might possibly already sitting in your SC body? I see a bolt not torqued down to the left of the TRD logo.

#3 or 4 might be holding the bracket with the bent U shape extending up off it.

Just my best guesses :) Good luck with the install!!

It's been a while since I looked at this stuff. I believe you are missing the IAC valve, TRD throttle body gasket and dipstick relocation bracket. You can get the valve and gasket at the dealer for pretty cheap. You can fashion something to move the dipstick. You'll also want to print the template for cutting the T-belt cover. That bracket on top of the SC should be fine for your throttle cable. You have 2 of the nuts for the throttle body, they're on the bolts already. Make sure you get the right throttle body gasket. The opening is completely round. Always recommend doing any other maintenance while you have everything torn apart. Valve cover gaskets if needed. Hope this helps -

I bought a used setup like you. Looking back, I would have replaced the dynamic tensioner with a new one since they are only $50. Mine just failed 5 months after I installed it. Otherwise, looks like you have everything you need minus the above mentioned parts. Pick up some extra hose also before the install. I purchased

1 x Silicone Boost/Vacuum Hose Shop Kit, Red (VAC000592) = $49.99

from https://www.siliconeintakes.com

This kit has proven to be useful across multiple projects.

I would also grab a new nosecone & have a shop press in some new rotor pack bearings. You will need FIPG for the new nosecone install.

When you say "IAC valve", you mean a standard "check valve", right? I don't recall seeing anything about needing an entirely new IAC valve. And is there a specific check valve for this, or will any check valve do? For example, would this part # work: 90917-10065

You can fashion something to move the dipstick.

Anyone have a picture or diagram to share? :help:

Also, I'm at altitude here (5300 ft). Most of my research indicates I don't need any fuel mods to run a supercharger safely (91 octane gas). In the near future I plan to install a wideband A/F gauge, but should I postpone the install until I have the gauge?

Where do you find this $50 dynamic tensioner you talk about? I've only seen it for a few hundred bucks. I would love to buy one for $50.

Not the entire kit with mounting hardware. Just the tensioner itself. PTR30-35041

Well look at that, you are a blessing in disguise. Looks like Ive got to place an order. Thank you!

Edit: there was only a 5 dollar difference between my local dealership and on trdparts4u. Shipping would be 16 bucks on website, so in my case I bought it locally for about 58 bucks. They have to order it, but takes about the same amount of time if I ordered online.

frustrating...

So, in trying to track down the elusive IAC "check valve", I was able (with much sleuthing) to figure out the part # is 00602-17620-065.

None of my searches for that part turned up anything online. Finally, one of the Toyota parts sources I used return a "discontinued part" screen. I emailed my go-to parts distributor (ToyotaOnlineParts.com) and asked if they had a replacement option.

Their response:

Hi,
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, you are correct, this part is discontinued and is no longer available from Toyota. Also, there is no superseded or alternate part number from Toyota.

Now what? In searching for the part, I found a fair bit of evidence it can actually be pretty critical to the supercharger performing correctly (this guy battled some pretty frustrating stuff until he finally installed the check valve).

Any advice on what I can put in there instead of the recommended/original IAC check valve?

Somewhere, someone mentioned that they used a check valve from an Isuzu, or something like that.

That sucks that they discontinued it, I bought one a few months ago from Camelback.

Edit: Found the mention of an alternative...

"I used a PCV valve for an Isuzu Rodeo for my TRD check valve because none of the dealers in town had it in stock and I didn't want to wait. It's basically the same thing, if you use a PCV valve it just need to be a straight one with no bends, you can use literally any of them. Hope that helps, I believe it was from a 93-96 Rodeo if that helps too."
