OP. It is in fact connected to the standard vehicle OBD port. The connector which is usually present under the dash is removed from the holder receptacle and plugged into the Apex GPS unit. The Apex GPS unit then has a copy OBD dongle that plugs into the original location. The OBD port you see and feel under the dash by the hood latch is actually the Apex unit's. Get up in there and you will find it. I had one from the dealer on my LandCruiser 200. They also said that "it can't be removed, yada yada BS." It will work on an OBD port.
