finding space for my stereo

Hello all... i've got an '05 4runner and looking to hook it up w/ some sounds. i've picked out what products are going in but i'm having a problem w/ figuring out where to set up the amps. i want to keep things hidden and make things look as stock as possible. i've thought about putting the amps (4 chan & mono) under the seats, but don't want to cut the air ducts or drill into the body. i thought of even having a bracket fabricated to bolt on the seats and mounting the amps to the brackets, will have to see if that is workable. don't want to hook the amps to the bass box b/c if i need to take the sub out, i'd have to unhook too many wires. wondering if there is enough space in the rear passenger panels for 2 amps (i guess it depends also on the size of the amps)? has anyone done this before? has anyone have any photos of other people doing this?

When i put mine under my seats i didnt want to get rid of the air for the rear either. So what i did was raise the amp off the floor by about 2" with some pieces of wood like this:

It works great. It doesnt get in the way of the seat moving and the air flows just fine to the back. With the seat all the way back you cant see the amp at all.

Hey GYoter... thanks for the pics and feedback. thats along the same lines i was thinking of doing. looking at what u did gives me more ideas and probably going w/ fabing some kind of bracket to mount the amp on. u said that it doesn't interfere w/ your seats, but it seems that i've got some wires hanging under my seat and think its for the lumbar adjustments, hopefully that doesn't become a hindering point. when i get my stuff installed i'll try to post some pics and show you what i've done. i'm also thinking about geting an ipod setup going and looking into seeing if i can do a Sony PSP also, if i can get it done i'll post pics of that as well.

Yeah, there could very well be some lumber adjustments under the drivers seat. I only have one amp and its under the passenger side so i didnt have to deal with that since the passenger doesnt have lumbar adjustments. The only wire hanging under the passenger side was the sensor for the airbag i think.

If you actually attach it to the seat you will have to make sure it clears the air duct and front carpet. Because if you slide it all the way forward the seat goes over these things. Anyhow, good luck. And do post some pics when you do it.

All good questions.... I'm in the same situation. I think I'm going to put a small 4 channel amp (maybe 25-40w/channel) under the passenger's seat and a mono amp in the rear passenger's side compartment above the wheel well there. That should work donkey, look into doing that. I agree about NOT wanting to mount the amp(s) on the sub box - too many wires to worry about (including POWER) when you want to remove the sub box.

atomic... thats another option and sounds like a good one. ya a 4chan amp may not fit back there near the wheel well but a mono amp probably will. i wonder how the air circulation is back there. i'm starting to think of designs for the bracket i want to fab in order to mount the amp on.

keep any other suggestions coming.

I have had space and air circulation problems in the back of my jeep - and I have a 5 channel 700w amp back there. Even with circulation problems, the amp will be fine if you wire up 1 or 2 fans/blowers like I did in my jeep. They just move the warm air over and around the amp, eliminating the dead, standing hot air. Blowers are cheap and super easy to hook up. I will be doing this in the 4runner as well. The blowers will run about $10-$20 each and all you'll need other than that is some wire, maybe a small inline fuse, and one 12vrelay ($5). You should be able to find all the stuff you need at Radio Shack. The local installer places will charge you alot more. I probably won't get to doing this for a month or two, but I'll certainly post pics/info when I start the process...

Yo, Donkey808 where are u located in oregon. Im from Hawaii too, w/ an 05' T4R Sport V8 located in Eugene Oregon. As for the stereo set up, I would recommend you hiding the amps in the stock sub location, if you have the 10 speaker JBL system.

devine... i'm in hillsboro but still in hawaii right now till next week. ya i was planning on looking in the spaces where the jbl system would have been. i figured that i would go w/ an aftermarket system and decided not to get the jbl system, so there should be some space. i've only had my ride for week before i left for hawaii, and that was about 2.5 months ago, so i'm jonesing to take it out.

most of my day is taken up with looking at stereo systems and coming up w/ ideas on what to do, boy do i need a job....
