Finding Squeaks and Rattles

Just wanted to post this up to see if anyone is as crazy as I am about annoying noises coming from your Runner. I try everything to duplicate any rattle I might hear when on the road and the I think I found the best way to do that. I got rid of two big rattles on Friday with the help of my brother. To duplicate road vibrations that cause the rattles, I hit the top of the tire on the sidewall or outer tread with a big rubber mallet and have my brother find the cause. Definitely a two man job but it worked great for me.

I have some annoying squeaks too. I will have to try this method out. I know I have something around the rear seat and up near the bottom of the windshield but I can't really tell 100%

My heat shield for my exhaust was rattling really bad every time you closed a door on the car, it got really aggravating so I just layed under the car and yanked and hit everything I could until I could duplicate the noise. No other rattles or squeaks unless I go over a bump while braking heavily, I'm assuming that's a suspension problem though.

I had a squeak from my rear seat too. It was the seat back where the latch locks into the bracket. I put a little electrical tape around the bracket and that stopped it.

I think youre right on with this one. If I can find any tape around the house I'll have to throw some on those brackets tonight

Lifesaver! I've had the same squeak forever and it was driving me nuts because I couldn't figure out what it was. I'll have to try this method out tomorrow.

my rear window recently started to rattle pretty bad when i go fast on the highway and roll down a window or when my sub is on.

My driver's side window rattles a lot whenever I have it partially rolled down and I shut my door. Dunno if this is normal or not though.

Yeah mine does that too. I can move the window with my hand when the window is halfway down. I think it's off its tracks but I have no idea how to fix it.

My headliner, rear seats, rear window, rear wiper, rear cargo handle and rear quarter panels all rattle when my bass is up. I installed double sided foam tape on the inside of the gas tank flap which got rid of that vibration and rattling. That was the worst haha.

Now I just want to put electrical tape on everything to fix all squeaks...

I can do the same thing with my window, I can wiggle it pretty easily.
