F'ing Flying Rocks

I'm sooooo fed up with flying rocks on the roads. Driving back to Utah from Colorado in our 2016 Outback some moron was hauling landscaping rock in his horse trailer with it spilling out the back, it took a huge scrape out of our hood near the windsheild as well as chipped in near the seal (right underneath the wiper blade) which turned into a massive crack the morning we got home. Had another rock hit the windshiled while on the local freeway here in SLC in the 4Runner 2 weeks ago, luckly no damage. Then this afternoon I was on the highway taking lunch to my ankle bitter when I saw a tennis size rock flying towards me but I couldn't maneuver cause of traffic. It hit hard, so I checked out when I got to her school. Nothing in the windshield as well as nothing on the body towards the roof. WTF??? :rant::rant:

The rocks on the road here in SLC are crazy from all the damn quarries and all the transport track from their trucks but they won't take any of the liablity. I feel like the local municipals should street sweep more. When I was in VA there were enough lawsuites against the local municipals there because of tire and wheel damage on the high way from pot holes they actually pennied up revpaved all of it! :rockthrow:

My favorite is the "Not responsible for broken windshields" signs that they post on the back of the trucks.

It seems to me like putting a sticker on your shotgun that says "not responsible for holes in your chest."

The roads here definitely suck. I had a fist sized one tear my windshield to shit in my old XJ on i15.

I'm very glad my commute is through SLC now, with no highways involved.

I'm sure the huge rock spill the other week did not help this cause either.

We are sorta of screwed no matter what, live uptowards Eaglewood Golf Course so we always hit trucks no matter what. Whether it's from the quarry or refineries. I try and take 89 as much as possible since it's quicker to pop into downtwown. This afternoon was near the I15 and 201 interchange...should have just taken back roads like I usually do.

Blah! I had this happen to me, years ago. I contacted the company and told them where it happened, license plate of the vehicle, the time of day and the damage that happened to my vehicle and they declined my claim due to not seeing who was driving... WTF??? I was behind them, how would I see who was driving in their big ass truck while I was in my small car... Guess Im still a little mad.

This happened in my brand new Tundra I had when we first moved to Virginia Beach, cracked my windshield right in the middle. I have to say that was the first time I've had legitmate road rage where I had to calm myself down.

It might just be bad luck, but it does seem that the T4R has more rocks hit the windshield more so than any other vehicle I have owned. I think it's because it's much more vertical than other cars/trucks other than maybe Jeep's. I have one small chip already, bought it in April but I was luck and it just looks like a bug hit it for now....until winter that is.

I replaced one windshield in my 2011 SR5. I'm about to replace the one in my 2013. Same thing... flying rocks on the highway.

and it has just about the same legality- none. if you can prove projectile was thrown from that vehicle and not laid on the road go for legal actions.
I have glass insurance for $4 a month extra, considering that windshield never survive for more than 2years in Colorado not a best investment. my 4runner is 2012 with about 30000 on it and it`s third windshield.

it depends, State farm premium for added glass $4 a month with no deductible.
Mind you all glass covered, not just windshield.

I drive from Sugarhouse to Park City every day. Got a crack in the first 50 miles of my 4Runner's life. And two more since then. I'm not going to bother fixing it until UT safety inspection requires it.

in comes a little fly who decides to land on the windshield, right in front of my face. The balls on this SOB.
Apply open hand smack to windshield with ninja reflex, speed, and precision! miss fly entirely. smash windshield into a clusterf*ck of spiderweb cracks....

this was back when i was cruising my Subaru Baja. street tires and 165hp/166ft-lb 4-banger never stopped me from doing my best to beat the hell outa that thing

I pony up the extra $4-$5 per month extra for glass coverage on all my vehicles.... They either fix or replace it for free, no deductible!!

Even with its almost entirely vertical windshield, my Jeep Wrangler "only" needed one windshield replaced in the last 5 years. However, my 2007 Tundra went through 3 windshields in the 6 years I owned it... I'll bet they have replaced 6-7 windshields total for free for me in the last 15 years!! (I can't believe they still offer it to me, here in Colorado)

I agree, and it's super infuriating. I never experienced this in Michigan, but in the 6 years I've been in Colorado I've had just total sandblasting of windshields. It's not just the big rocks, it's the little ones that you don't realize do as much damage until you try to drive West during a sunset and realize you can't see a damn thing because of the sandblasting.

However, the first year I noticed this, I called Progressive and was told about the $50 glass deductable. I signed up, and I replace my windshield every other year now. It's insane to me that we can't figure out how to just not put rocks on the friggin' road, but in the meantime, this isn't a bad way to remedy the situation.

I've never had a cracked windshield because of rocks, but I now have a chipped windshield from an idiot in front of me that threw a hand full of change out of his window going down the interstate..... I was so mad, but I couldn't catch up and get his tag # because of 33s and stock gears vs WRX. This gives me all the more reason to regear.

the only windshield i've ever had crack was a 2013 Outback. Got chipped a couple months into owning it. 15mos later that chip decided to turn into a crack that went all the way across the windshield.
