finished installing this....but got questions

I finished putting this on last night and it worked good but my concerns are:

1. The power of the DVD is always on and it can play even w/o the key in the ignition, kind of cool but I don't prefer it that way. Any suggestions to get around this?? I only want it to play when the key is in there.

2. The external amp wires are connected to the external input/output of the dvdplayer and it is constantly on. Before I installed this unit, my amp always turn off a few seconds after I get out of the car. Now I can see the power is always on even w/o the key in the ignition.

Thanks in advanced.

Easy enough to fix...

Just find a source for power that is switched with the ignition. Either "ignition on" or "accessory on"

It sounds like you used an "always hot" power source when you wired it up.

There are two "power" wires...one all-time power (usually yellow) and one switched wire (usually red).

I agree that it sounds like you have your switched wire getting power all the time. Make sure your switched wired is actually getting a switched source and it will work like it is supposed to :)

thanks. There are two wires, one is red (ACC) power and yellow (battery) power. I've tried to run the red alone and it didn't give me any power until I plugged in the yellow wire to the battery. It was weird but I'm gonna try something else tomorrow and see what will happen.

Will post answer if I get it to work right. Still open to suggestions...

the yellow wire (battery) should get power ALL the time...this keeps the radio station presets, clock...stuff like that

you can not run on either one alone...they both need to be hooked up....if you hook both of them up to constant power, then the radio will work all the time...no matter if the car is on or not...the purpose of the red wire is to tell the radio when it can turn on (usually when the key is turned to the ACC position)

the red wire should only get power when you turn the key to ACC....that tells the radio to turn on

so you need both wires hooked up properly...yellow gets power all the time...red gets power only when the key is turned

Dude, that is a S-W-E-E-T DVD unit. I would be very appreciative if you can post the model of your unit. Also, I am interested if it has the navagiation on it too. Thnx.

Add DRL's to the list below after this weekend. Relay is on order to arrive wednesday.

thanks fo'runner. It's the Panasonic CQ-VD7500U. It has DVD/TV/MP3/SD but no navigation. The newer one, 9300 model should have it on the website.

Finally got it working. Found a wiring diagram for Toyota radio unit and got all wiring correct. Thanks for all opinions.

Just an FYI to those of you considering this kind of player and living in California (and probably other states as well). It is illegal to have a system 'capable' of playing video visible from the front seats UNLESS you have a hardware interlock mechanism that disables those features while the car is being driven.
