FIPG for oil pan

Recently I saw a few tiny drops of oil on my garage floor. I crawled under to see where it was coming from and I believe it is coming from the seams of the oil pan. Ran my finger around the seams and wet. The oil seems to trickle from the seams toward the drain plug. I also checked above and all dry (valve covers, dip stick). It cant be the rear seal.

You think its a good idea to add FIPG to the seams? I'm not removing the pan by the way. Just thought of this instead of taking it off just to seal to prevent the trickles.

It's hard to stop a leak from the outside. If you can clean the entire seam real good, and apply it all the way around then sure, why not? Not going to hurt anything. Just don't place any bets that it will stop the leak for very long.

How about just letting it leak? If the leak isn't that bad, just keep an eye on your oil level between oil changes and add when necessary. If the leak is going to bug you, pull the front differential, drop the pan and reseal it.

I've never tried putting extra FIPG on the outside seams but have a feeling it wouldn't work very well. It's still worth a try since that'll be easy to do.

I heard Scotty Kilmer recommend ATP 205 for engine, transmission or power steering leaks. I haven't had a reason to try it yet so no personal experience.

Unless the oil pan has been disturbed or damaged it's unlikely the pan seal is leaking, I'd suspect either the rear main seal, cam seals or valve covers or some other location. Oil from either of those locations, and others, can travel with gravity or wind and wick along cracks and what not.

WHERE on the pan lip are you finding oil; front, side, rear? This could give you a clue as to where to look - sort of like finding where ants are coming from.

Regarding resealing from the outside without dropping the pan, I've never known anyone that was able to do it successfully long term.
