Fire Extinguisher

Can you guys post up pics of your fire extinguishers in your 4th gens. I'd like to get some ideas.

Picked up one today. I went with the Amerex Halotron I 2.5# again. It is a nice choice as it uses all aluminum valving as well as being a "clean agent". Comes with a nice all steel vehicle bracket as well.

I am thinking about bolting it to either the driver side jack door or the right of the jack door. I am somewhat worried that in an accident the weight of the extinguisher may rip the plastic door off and send it flying about the cabin if mounted there. Dont know if that is a valid issue or not. It is an ideal location though.

None here. I do not put away car fires. Trust me, if your ride is on fire you got to let it go. But if just for camping accidents or tailgate grill fires small extinguisher makes sense.

I'm not sure how it'll hold up in an accident, but I keep the rear privacy screen covering the back so hopefully that'll help. It's not the fire extinguisher I'm worried about, it's the 75lb subwoofer encloser! LOL

I actually have it strapped down using the hooks back there, but who knows how that'll hold up either...

The fire extinguisher doesn't take up much space so I decide to buy it. It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. It may not even be for me, but for another motorist.

I'm not sure if those small fire extinguishers will work well. They may contain a fire, but to put one out is a totally different story.

I just bought one for my rig for when I hit the beach. If the engine overheats, I'd rather put it out in the engine bay before losing the entire rig.

Oh, and its the type that has a hose and requires two hands to opperate. I've learned from a beach buggy forum that a larger fire extinguisher is best. Though it takes up space, I only carry it when I'm going off road.

I keep mine (in an upright position) in my Rubbermaie cargo box along with a myriad of other items.

When it comes to extinguishers, be sure that you have an extinguisher that is big enough to handle what you are trying to extinguish. A lot of people get a false sense of security because they have an extinguisher on hand but often times come up short for two reasons...1) they don't know how to use it & 2) they don't have a large enough extinguisher. Do yourself a favor and go to Costco and buy a $20 extinguisher which is bigger and also has a metal top instead of the plastic ones. Also, be sure to flip the extinguisher upside down and tap it with a rubber mallet to loosen up the "caked" powder at least once a month.
