Greetings. This is my first post on this site so let me start by being long winded but hopefully contributing something useful. I had 1998 4Runner that was equipped with the Firststone Destination ATs. They did fantastic!!!!!
Occupationally I have to wear a suit to the office most days so as you would imagine I do most of my driving on city streets. These tires are really quiet and made no really noticable road noise. Since I have an affinity for sport bikes my driving/riding habits tend to spillover into anything I turn the key and operate. I pushed these tire pretty good through the turns and in various road conditions without any noticable short coming. I really used to beat my old 4Runner around and push it for all it was worth. Nothing intentional just for the sake of "muddin" but there were places I wanted to go and so I went. Let's just say I have returned home from expedition with mud curiously still sticking to area's of the grill and bumper and I have the photographs to back up those claims. All this on a stock vehicle with just the tires being the only exception.
I have a client who is a Firsestone Dealer and that is how I eneded up with this tire. Their shop manager asked me where I would be taking that 98 4Runner and when I told him everywhere I felt like taking it, the Destination AT was his recommendation.
Now let me tell you about my weekend. Actually, just yesterday but let me give you a little more background. On May 2nd I upgraded to a 2004 SR5 4Runner that still has the stock tires. Did I mention I live in WV, the land where God deposited all the left over red clay when completing his work on the globe. I took the wife (the attorney) and my two daughters (the oldest aka the princess) fishing in a remote area at priviate pond. It is located on what our DMV labels "primative to impassible" roads when viewing the county road maps. Can you believe people still live in these places in Appalachia. I'm jealous. Anyway, after lots of rain on Thursday and Friday of this past week I had the misfortune of testing the stock tires on my 4Runner and the four of us ended up hiking about a mile, yes with the wife and kids in tow, to meet the rest of our party and to enlist help removing my 4Runner from this dinosaur entrapping red death we call soil in these parts. Lucky for me we were that close to our destination.
I am confident had I had decent shoes on my new baby I would not this very evening be in the dog house for subjecting the family to forced march through the WV back country. Forgive the unneccesary elements to my respone but the bottom line is I feel so strongly about these tires I am going Tuesday and replacing all five with the Destination AT. If you are really, really into mud then maybe this is not the tire to you. But if you are like me and you live in the city but escape to truly remote areas of "God's Country" at every oppotunity you will not be disappointed in this 60K mile rate AT.
I also have this tire on the Wife's Chevy Avalanche as this was my vehicle before she stole it from me (another long story) and I like the Uni-T wet weather aspect of the tire. There are lots of places you can go on line to find review of this tire.
I honestly do not work for Firestone, I just think this is an excellent tire for people who drive in the city and want a smooth quiet ride with a long tread life but also like to take their 4Runner where it was designed to be driven. Provided of course that it is properly shod for the task.
