What's up everybody!? I'm Matt and a few weeks ago I got my first taste of the yota world. Got a 97 4runner Sr5 3.4. Kinda a funny 4runner because it has 3.9 gears. Confirmed by doing the spin test. Also it says it came stock with the 225's however my wheels look like they've always been on the 4r but they're 16's. Not impossible to think one of the previous owners picked them up but it could just be a strange 4r from the factory. The 3.9's and the 265/75/15's I have don't give me the best gas mileage but I can solve that later.
So far I've been doing maintenance stuff. Changed out my clock spring, headlight switch cause it was burnt up, had to bypass my dimmer switch because the interior lights weren't working. And doing other small stuff.
Anywho, for the past 5 yrs or so I've been building and offroading jeeps. Oh come on, put your hands down, I can feel you shamming me from here. So I've had my hand in working on all kinds of rigs and building experience. I can weld, I've made bumpers, control arms, welded axle brackets, tube work and all that kind of mess. I've rebuilt and regeared axles. And have done a ton of suspension work.
So where I am with this 4runner, for a little bit it's gotta be my daily driver. Cause for the next few months I gotta do this weird thing called adulting and keep saving up for an engagement ring. But anyway after that I plan to start putting some money into this thing. I gotta do it before the woman can start seeing what all I waste my money on and control my spending hahaha.
But my plan in the near future is to go ahead and sas it. Small task right!? Probably go 44/9 route. So that brings my first question.
I've seen a lot of sas and they're either coilovers or leafs. I understand leafs are cheap and coilovers are awesome but what about regular old coils? Is it a clearance issue? Can you not weld coil brackets to the frame? Hate to admit that I honestly don't know a lot about this 4runner yet and all the mod information I should and my research has been kind of lazy.
That's actually the only question I have right now because I figured all my other crap out haha!
Anyway thanks for any info and I hope my 4runner life goes on for a while.
