Can't believe I'm saying this ,but I'm ready to be a 4runner owner. . This weekend I'm planning on looking at a '03 4runner sport . I talked to owner of the dealer on the phone and he assures me that there are no problems with it. Since I've never bought a used vehicle I'm posting for some advice to what I should be looking for. I plan on using this vehicle for everyday driving , taking trips ,and some offroading (why have 4x4 if your not gonna use it:thumb: ) here's the link 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sport 4WD For Sale In Riverbank CA - Economy Auto Sale

He needs to get his description right: Engine - 8-Cylinder, 4.0L V6 DOHC 24V

If its a v8 need to know when the belt & pump replaced

Check the 4wd actuator

Inspect for leaks

Correct, it is not a sport! Wrong wheels, no scoop, not correct seats etc! So the title of vehicle and description are wrong! That does not mean a bad car, however don't believe what the salesman says! Check it out completely! Does look clean, which is good!!

yeah, I was just trying to point out the title being incorrect. and x2 on it looking clean.

if its v8, check the 4LO operation as well as the center diff lock actuator if its equipped. Just had to pay that repair bill.

Do all sports come with the scoop? I really want a v8 sport ,and a lot of places have listed v8 sports but most don't have scoops or v8 emblem

All sports have scoop and 17" 6 spoke sport wheels! Unless someone changed them, but unlikely with hood, possible with wheels, but would be to aftermarket wheels! Also V8's will have the V8 badge I. The grill unless grill changed, unlikely if car is on a lot!

Even though it isn't what everyone see's as a sports model. The title will come out saying it's a sport. That is why the dealer is calling it a sport. My 04 had the same saying on it when purchased new of the lot, no hood scoop or badges though. Present 08 also. v-6 version.

It's got the gray cladding. That was only on the '03 SR5. The Limited got body color cladding. The other stuff has just been added by the owner.

The V8 is a good thing...much better option than the V6 especially at high mileage.

Check to make sure there's not too much rust on the under carriage. Also very important to check 4lo setting (put in neutral to change) and also check diff lock (hold down and make sure the dash light turns solid after blinking with VSC off light also).

Not a bad deal wether Sport or not. Anyway also wanted to mention to check the sunroof.. Mine just started acting up so I shut it and pulled the fuse. It's an expensive fix if it's important to you. It's just not something I really care for myself though. Also check the brakes. And if you really want to be sure if its a sport, check and see if it has X-REAS suspension.. Good luck..
