First Beach Ride

St Augustine, I used to take my Camaro there frequently.
An hour north to Nassau Sound will provide some better 4X only terrain.
I don't air down either and she crawls right on through in 4 hi.
I'm sure the Carolina outer banks have some interesting areas that would require some vehicles to air down. Keep in mind that footprint is what's gained and not all vehicles need to air down based on tire size and vehicle weight to stay on top of the sand. Tread patterns aren't critical but less aggressive is better. Youre trying to stay on top as much as possible and keep wheel spin at zero.
Rear drive only dune buggies with VW engines used to walk everywhere with some slicks on them. They were light with wide back tires and float on the sand comparatively. But we're talking about fat SUV's here.

A couple of areas near crescent beach are mandatory 4 wheel drive. I've seen plenty of the 3/4ton crew getting stuck. They rope off the driving area to just below the dunes in the deeper, softer sand. Before the t4r, we'd take the gx470 and it always did well. I'm looking forward to many beach trips in the 4Runner.
