First brake job?

Okay, I have a 2006 Limited V8 and I'm trying to decide whether to sell off my lease to a friend who wants to buy me out or not. One of my deciding factors is the fact that I have 34K miles on the truck now, and will probably have 50-55K by the time my lease is up, (april 09). I'm trying to figure out what this truck will cost me if I keep it. I know I will probably need tires and possibly brakes, although my miles are about 70% highway. My question is, when I get my first brake job, will I need rotors too or is that just "stealer" BS? I heard in the tacoma forum that it's best to just replace the pads and not even resurface the rotors. Please not I don't do any of this myself, nor would I ever attempt it as time is of the essence for me and I don't have access to tools/space either. If the rotors DO have to be replaced, how much do you think that job would cost?

Your rotors definitley wont need to be replaced. The dealership will just suggest that you do so they can make some extra cash.

No, new rotors won't be needed. Just have them machined while replacing the pads.

As long as you don't wait till you hear/feel brake issues the rotors should be OK. I had to change my pads at 20K miles. You may want to check how much pad is left.

Unless rotors are warped (replace then) or scored (replace or machine) there is no reason to mess with rotors other than to lightly sand surface of rotors to remove glaze. Un-need machining is asking for warped rotors.

I've read several accounts of frozen calipers on 4R's costing around $2,000 to replace everything!
Do they use a floating caliper design?

No, the front caliper is a fixed 4 piston design. Caliper does not slide. The rears however is a slide design.

On my 2004, front brakes lasted almost 50k. They weren't making noise yet but I replaced them. The front rotors were warped and had to be replaced. The rear I just had done at about 70k, rotors were fine to machine and reuse.

110,000 miles on the 04 without a brakejob or any noise yet. Thinking about taking it in soon to be checked out but everything's still working fine. I obviously spend most of the time on the highway and take it easy on both pedals.
