First issue with TE.

Freezing temps, light rain/snow, froze up the windshield...

That's OK!!! I got a "windshield wiper de-icer"...

Push the button, light comes on, waiting for about 10 minutes and.....Nothing.

Function of the switch was flawless. Smooth, easy operation, light came on with no hesitation.

on my passenger side it doesn't even really line up with the wiper blade.

Mine works great. Did you get out and feel the resistor strips to see if they're hot?

Mine works only if you catch it before it's iced up. Also, I find that -20 is way outside the operational range for the strip should it ice up. Driving also affects the strip as it doesn't seem to get hot enough to overcome the wind effect. Best situation is to use it prior to icing up while sitting in a parking lot.

Best solution: "Bump" your wiper stalk control upwards. If you do this right, it places your wipers directly above the windshield defrost vents putting your wipers above the warmest part of the windshield keeping them unfrozen. Not the best solution but it works. Used this method for years as we get a lot of ice before the snow. Our climate is such that it really never gets real cold here. It will get down to 30 degrees, snow a lot and in a few days be 55 degrees again, followed by a night in the 20's with ice. Always like that here in between the north and south in the mountains.

258 miles today, with over 200 of those in more or less constant snow and temps ranging from 14 to 28 (according to the dash) and the wiper deicers worked flawlessly on mine (as they always have). Some minimal icing on the wiper insert mounts (the actual blade) occurred occasionally, but the 'rubber' swiping edge remained ice free and effective. It's a 2010 TE. :shrug:

Hmmm... I took it to the dealer yesterday, they said all was fine. The windshield wiper de-icer portion did indeed heat up. Perhaps it was a fluke? Anyway I'm glad it's working.

Mine works fine as well. It definitely beats waiting 10 minutes for the heat to warm up

I am trying to remember if my 2011 Limited has this function- the windshield de-icer that is or is it just the TEs? The LE does have side view mirror defrost thingie that works really well.
