First mod: Cup holder hack...

So when I got my new-to-me 4th gen, the insert in the middle of the cup holder was missing:

Obviously, having my drinks spill all over the place wasn't an option for me. So I searched the internet and here to find the factory piece.

Holy Crap! They want how much for that little I shaped piece of plastic?

Well, if you look up "cheap SOB" in the dictionary, you'll see my picture. ;): There's no way I'm paying $50+ for that little plastic piece.

So, off to Hobby Lobby for a block of styrofoam. Cost: $3.00.

Then, got a hacksaw blade and some duct tape. Cost: $0 because I already had it.

Cut out a crude shape and "dummied" it into place:

I made it a little small because I knew I was going to put tape on it.

Test fit revealed it to still be a little small (loose enough to move around.)

No problem a thin strip of styrofoam can't fix:

Final product. Fit's tight!

Cup holder "in action" (Disregard my hairy knee.)

Cost: About $3.50 in materials. Time: about 20 minutes. Not throwing away money on "genuine toyota (overpriced) parts?" PRICELESS!

Congrats on figuring that out.

However, my favorite parts supplier sells those for $37.50 shipped, which I would gladly pay. The cupholder is something I use everyday, I really like the adjustable arm for different cup sizes, and then there's the aesthetics.

Now trace it onto a block of wood and cut it out then paint it so it doesn't look ghetto!

Or do this...

The yota factory cupholder sucks a lot...this has potential i would use a different material but props for some ingenuity.

If it doesn't hold up, there are a couple of 4Runners being parted out on craigslist locally. You might see if they'll trade you the piece for a 12 pack of good beer.

Or you could always mold the foam with a type of release type and lay up some carbon fiber sheets with some resin over it. That would be pretty neat!

Sorry dude, looks like ****. Choot'm Clint.

It's the tape that kills this mod - in the heat the tape is going to "leak" adhesive on the edges and turn that area into a sticky mess.

I can't believe that used one from eBay went for $39!! That's ridiculous.

I hate those adjustable holders. Whenever I set mine for a smaller size, it ends up popping out to the bigger size and the drink just rattles around in there.

The factory cup holder insert is great, until you take a sharp turn, an the little adjustable arm opens. That's when my drink gets to leanin'.
