First mod: Cup holder hack...

I'll give you a 10 for the idea.

3 for execution.

But as they say, it's your Runner.

Since I read this thread I keep my doors locked!

Reviving this old thread. I just bought an EVA foam block (in grey to match my interior) on Amazon that was made for yoga (cost $7). I don't know anything about yoga, but it looked to be about the right size.

Gonna cut it down to fit very snugly in the hole. I just need to figure out how to size/shape the cutouts for the cups. Ideally it would hold a Coke can, large McD's plastic cups, and my big Yeti cups well. May cut a channel between the two cup holes so I can fit a coffee mug with a handle in there as well.

I hate the factory I-shaped thing with a purple passion. I spilled 2 drinks in my car before I threw it out. I know it has wings, and I know it can be moved from side to side. I also know it doesn't work. Such a great vehicle deserves better cup holders. The ones in the back seat work fine. I haven't had a cup holder this bad since my 1998 4Runner (two 4Runners ago).

Somewhat on topic, but also somewhat off-topic... does anyone recall the 3d printed cupholder inserts someone on here was designing? They slimmed down the size of the holders, and you could add a cigarette lighter or switches on one side or leave it normal.

These? 3D Printed Cup-holder Insert

I tried to contact the OP on that thread to buy, but never heard back from him.

Here's what I came up with. Chopped up a block of EVA foam made for Yoga with a bread knife, and drilled holes in it with a "hole saw" made from a 3.25 inch or so can of baked beans from Dollar Tree.

Trimmed it with black gaffer's tape to try to hide some of the fugly. Holds my large McD's cups, my Yeti-style 30 oz. cups, and my coffee. I'm a happy camper.

I'll take better pictures if anybody cares...

Yes, it's ugly. It works like a champ, though! I'll take functional over pretty in this case.

Very good idea, and if it works for you, that’s all that matters! I guess it just depends what type of cups people use most, but I have zero issues with my stock setup. I’m actually very happy because this is the first vehicle I’ve ever owned (or been in) that can actually hold my gym water bottle, which is a large (40oz, I think), insulated, stainless Camelbak. I also use it without issue for my smaller plastic Camelbak which is 32oz. For that one, I use the adjustable arm and it works fine. Obviously the smaller one would tip if I was off roading or something, but for street use it works fine everyday for me. The only thing I’d change is to make it deeper for taller bottles.

I had one of the 3d printed cup holders I sold. It took me like 3 weeks to get anyone who didn't waste my time. I sent pics of it to like 14 people an they stopped replying. Finally I sold it to someone an never heard another word. Not sure if it didn't meet expectations or what.

TiN was the username of the designer I believe. He actually replied to me in November of 18' an sold me the very last one he had. I didn't keep it or use it, so he has no more. An people wouldn't pay $50 for mine, let alone the $75 he sold them all for new.
