First off road trip to The Cliffs, IL

Well I've owned 2 tacomas and this is my first 4runner. I've never been to an off road park before and I bought this 4runner with the plan of building it overtime and taking it to off road parks. It's my daily driver and I decided to go to Cliffs Insane Terrain with some jeep buddies. I was very excited to go, but wow what a disappointing trip. The place was 100% muddy wet clay. Not a single dry spot in the park. I hate mud, it's not for me. I was unable to test the 4runners capabilities because I was being winched out every 20 feet. The 4runner took some abuse (slamming the front skid plate and rear hitch HARD coming through a deep hole) and breaking my front bumper corner off. I developed a new respect for Jeeps (don't hurt me). The have amazing approach and departure angles, and aftermarket jeep parts are cheap unlike toyota parts. I'm a toyota enthusiast for life no matter the cost of aftermarket parts.

Now here I am thinking about how I'm gonna come up with a few thousand dollars for biggers tires, a lift, a winch, and a plate front and rear bumper.

I have not been thee but have heard from others they have narrow trails that are mostly muddy. I wouldn't take my 3rd gen there. It is unlikely i will take my 85' crawler there due to all the mud. I hate mud.

Yeah mud sucks. I need some reassurance these 4runners are off road capable even mostly stock! Those jeeps ran circles around me, granted they had cheap lifts and mud tires on them, I didn't

Decent tires and a rear locker will even you up with most of those Heeps. Don't worry about getting stuck - that means you are at least trying.
