did my first ever oil change today with the help of my dad and man did i learn a lot. first off, i'm never letting my dad near my truck again. he might have changed the oil on all our other cars but he didnt have a clue as to what to do with the 4runner.
second, thank god for this site otherwise we'd still be looking for that trap cover underneath the truck.
third, gotta hand it to the yota engineers for making this truck so user-friendly. the filters in a really convenient place, and thank-goodness for that rim/lip next to the filter. my dad's advice was to first take off the filter and then drain the oil, even though i told him it should be the other way around (read that here
) as soon as i loosened the filter, oil started flowing out. there was probably 1/4 cup of oil that could have dripped all over the engine bay if it werent for that rim....
anyhow, there was a lot to be learned and i still have some questions:
-i filled up with 5qts of oil. the manual says 5.5qts. Is that 0.5qts gonna make a difference? i guess i should just fill it to spec in the morning.
-is there something wrong with penzoil? almost every thread i read about oil, people tend to be using mobil-1 or some kinda synth. we used penzoil 5w30.
oh yea, it was a tight fit getting underneath the truck. i can see how a daystar/revtek lift could be beneficial
