First Post! New (to me) Trail Edition

Hey Guys,

I've been lurking here for a few weeks. Great forum. Bought our 5th 4Runner in past 15 years a couple of weeks ago. I found a mint one just 40 miles from our home. Lucky!!! 50,000 miles and by the look of it never driven on anything but tarmac. Usually we try to purchase them with low miles and then crank out the miles. First thing I did was put on some Hankook Dynapros 265/75/16 and bought a Rola Rack. But first I had a buddy of mine weld it and then put a couple of coats of Rustoleum Bed Liner spray on it. It's a solid rack. Thought about the BajaRack but $800 bucks and $175 to ship is a bit steep. Got a trip out to Boulder Canyon for some rock climbing next week so the rack will come in handy. Btw if you ever want a more solid rack you should check out whitson metalworks on here, he builds a great looking rack and it would be cheaper than the bajarack.

I ran that rack for a while on my 03 limited.

FYI....If you de-badge your truck, I want to buy the trail edition badges... You cannot order them from the dealer without a vin....i have not trail vin so if you sell put me at the top of you list...thanks...

Good find! Welcome to the site! IMHO, those are the crown jewel of the 4th gen and pretty rare. I've only seen two in person. One of these days I'd like to get my hands on one like that.

love the truck and would take it over my 09 fully loaded limited anyday.

i hate to do this but i have a small request, the only reason im asking is because you have a trail. if you take off the trim piece for the center console does this wire plug into the rear diff lock button?

The 2009 Trail Edition has:

Upgraded Bilstein shocks (kind of like the TT FJ Cruiser)
Rear Electric Differential Lock
More aggressive ATRAC (like FJ Cruiser)
Water resistant upholstery

Also, I believe it was only in 09 4th Gens, it replaced the Sport Edition that year

thats impressive.. the atrac in my 5th gen which im gonna assume is the same as in the 09 works AMAZING ive used it instead of engaging my locker just to see how well it works.. it's good stuff.. i guess the only thing i have that it doesn't is the kdss. i almost bought a4th gen until i rented a 5th gen and loved it soo much i bought one.. but i definitely wouldn't have known about the trail edition.. (infact, i bought a 5th gen limited, then wanted the trail so i traded that in on a trail)

Thanks for all the positive feedback! And yep - I'm a Jayhawk! Upcoming mods would be Shrockworks rock rails, and not to sure what else at this time. Just browsing this forum looks like it could cost me some major bucks to turn my truck into some of these amazing rigs! That's the fun of it tho. I'll see what I can do about checking the center console but it won't be for awhile. I'm on the road for a few weeks including Breckinridge and Boulder Canyon for some rock climbing (not with trucks but with ropes and harnesses!).

the white one is 12v source, for the ashtray option with 12v outlet. the blue one is for DAC, and if you buy the switch and plug it in, it will work.

ok well i have an 09 and have 2 12volt plugs already so i dont really understand what this is for
