First post please help a CND buy my 1st runner

Hi great forum you got here guys, I've been poking around for a few days.

Decided to buy my wife a new 2011 4runner for her and my two boys. Ages 2 and 4. I will borrow the truck the odd time for towing

My dilemma is buy a base runner SR5 or one with the upgrade pkg.

Base sr5. Fabric seats (wife wants leather and heated seats) and need to dealer install bluetooth. Msrp $36,820

Now the upgrade pkg msrp $42,800 for that you get:
-steering wheel audio controls
-Bluetooth
-sat & USB inputs
-roof fin antenna
-sunroof
-anti theft system
-mirror back up cam
-leather seats
-heated front seats
-leather shift knob and wheel
-3rd row seats

Now other than leather, heated seats, backup cam & Bluetooth the other options are not needed. Don't care for 3row or sunroof

Now so after tax this upgrade pkg is almost $7,000. That's allot for leather and heated seats. Oh yeah I'm in Canada so we can't pick and build like the US?:redbrick:

So what would you guys do if you were me?

$7k is a lot (even in CDN $) :naughty: , but if you can afford it, go for it. She'll drive this for a long time, she should be happy in it.

It's too bad you don't have better control over those options - that would p!ss me off too. But it is what it is. Remember, she's worth it. It's a good opportunity to make up for the last 15 stupid things you've done.

Get running boards - it's a big step up for a woman or kids.

Running boards are STD equipment in Canada. Weird how they pkg them here.

I got myself 2010 SR5 with Upgarde package. Aside of leather seats I wanted backup camera and audio controls on sterring wheel - they both very nice additions - I use to switch radio channels diring commercials all the time. USB port came out very handy too - you can put in USB stick with music in it and it will act as MP3 player. Bluethooth to my surprise works well too, so I don't regret having all those features. Besides invoice price for Upgrade package in 2010 is $3,992, so whole invoice (without tax) is $39,062. I think 2011 is a little bit more expensive though.

I just ordered a 2011 upgrade SR 5 in Canada , I have 2 kids also and 3rd row will come in handy at times , the package is worth the money .The 10s didn't come wit 3rd row and the package was a little cheaper.

I used Car Cost Canada - Home Page . It's not free, but well worth it. It's way easier to negotiate price with invocie price printout on the table. But there was only 9 2010 4Runners in Ontario at the time I got mine and I was very short on time because my lease was expiring, so the best I could do was $1000 over invoice.

You live in Canada. You need heated seats no matter what the cost.
The backup camera will pay for itself every time you tow: Now you won't have to have the rear bumper fixed for backing into the trailer tongue.
Oh, your boys are 2 and 4? It won't be long before they want to bring friends along, and how happy will the missus be if she can't take them?
Negotiate it down. You won't regret it.
