First Snorkel Designed for the 4th Gen 4Runner

Hey guys, I have been speaking with Peter Sloop from Sloop Imports. He has agreed to bring over the designer from In House Fab to prototype and start manufacturing a snorkel for the 4th Gen 4runner. To my knowledge, this will be the first snorkel manufactured specifically for the 4th gen. It will be made out of stainless steel with the option to be powder coated. Also at this point, we are planning on integrating it into the factory air-box to make the unit easier to install and a little cheaper. They haven't determined a price yet since we haven't started prototyping. I will update you on price when we get to that point. I can say it should be cheaper than the Tacoma version that they are currently selling.

All he is requesting is for 5 to 10 people that would be willing to commit to buying the snorkel to justify the expense of prototyping the unit. If we can get those people, the rough timeline at this point is to have a prototype done by the end of spring with the snorkel ready to purchase by mid-summer. I will update you with more accurate information as I get it from Peter.

The plan is to make it for both V6 and V8. The pipe size might be a little smaller the big thing is making sure we get enough air to the engine, especially when it’s under a heavy load. As far as a sand or pre filter we are trying to come up with a good solution for that. We do plan on having something.

We are hoping for it to be less the $600 but until we get the prototype done we won't know for sure.

This is a really cool design and I'm all for something designed specifically for the 4th Gen. I could see prototype costs bring around $600. Hoping the manufacturing costs get closer to $350. Any consideration of making these from a different material? Seems like a polymer would be plenty robust, lighter, and more cost effective.

I would need to see a proposed 'finished' CAD model before going in.

Funny thing is that most people would think it was an exhaust pipe instead of a snorkel from the way it looks on that Tacoma. Once they had a steel prototype, it would seem to me that it would be more profitable to then have it molded in ABS, or some other polymer than fabricating from stainless tubing. Nice to see new products still being developed for these older runners though!

id be interested so long as i could see the cad file first. Does anyone know how this sort of snorkel filters out the water like when it rains, I kniw the arb snorkels' design helps but how does it work with an open tube?

No, you wouldn't burn yourself if you brushed up against it. The sun reflecting off of it isn't bad at all!

Hey guys, if you are looking for a plastic version, Safari Snorkel just released theirs for the V6 and V8. SKU for V8 SS440HF. SKU for V6 SS445HF. There are a few companies running black Friday sales on them right now. The cheapest I've found is 509 and it goes up from there.
