First snowfall for my 4Runner

Well, I bought my 4Runner about two weeks ago and I finally had the chance to put it's 4X4 capabilities to the test. I have to say I'm quite impressed. It snowed a couple inches in Northern VA and I took the 4Runner around the neighborhood, to DMV and to Home Depot to pick up a snow shovel. My big complaint is when VSC kicks in, a beeping alert comes on to notify you. It's rather annoying, but I guess I can learn to live with it. I locked the center differential and plowing through the snow was even easier. Gawd, I love my 4Runner even more!

Have fun playing in the snow, but remember to be careful and mindfull of others.

first snow

I just returned from an 150 mile highway trip tonight through snow, blowing snow, and dismal visability conditions in -25 C temperatures.

This was the first real test of my 04 V8, but excellent visibility with the headlights, the factory fog lamps illuminated directly in front of the vehicle, and the vehicle stuck well to compact snow and ice covered roads. I have the original equiment Dunlop tires, but the full time 4wd may have helped enhance traction. Not once did any of the traction control or stability control devices engage.

I should have a set of Bridgestone Winter Duelers installed this weekend, so expect traction only to improve.

First impressions were that I was pleased with the traction and driving experience!

We had a snow storm here in NY last night and it dumped a foot of snow. My 4runner behaved like a champ, very stable, good acceleration and a great grip on the snowy highway. It was very icy and slippery and the ABS were going off like "maracas" in a latin band. The VSC light came off once when I turned a little faster around the corner by my house, and it handled well.

The Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 tires that came with my sport had horrible reviews on TireRack.com but I didn't have a problem in the snow. I felt they gave adequate traction so I'm unsure why they got such low reviews. It's a possibility that this is my first SUV and I've always driven FWD/RWD cars my entire life so I don't know what to expect. Coming from FWD/RWD the 4X4 may be such a big change in itself that the type of tires aren't really affecting my judgement. Well, I've only had the Runner for about 800+ miles, so I should reserve my judgement on the tires until a couple thousand more miles.

I've had my 2000 SR5 for about 3 weeks now, and I just got to experience my first snow fall. I thought My 4runner handled pretty good although this is my first 4wd and I have nothing to compare with. My old Beemer would always get stuck, so it felt really good to drive through a foot of snow without any trouble at all. It also feels good accelerating up an icy incline where my old car would just lose traction until I would have to turn around and take another run at the hill.

We had a snowstorm in New Jersey on Wendnesday. It was that heavy wet snow. I decided to take my truck out for a spin. I had so much fun going parking in spots with the snow. This truck handles great. Did not even get close to getting stuck!

Is there a way to disable or lower the volume of the beeping?? It's very distracting. This might be a dealership question but they aren't the most knowledgeable folks I've come to find out.

I dont like that either, another thing is that when this is goin on it doesnt allow you to accelerate until you are back in control...no fun...lol

I got my 4R mid-Feb after most of the snow is gone. Got a small sprinkle this past week but not enjoyable enough. This weekend, as soon as I get the hell out of this office, I'm heading to my friend farm in the Catskills area. Last update, he got a foot of fresh white and was expecting another.

Simple: Put duck tape over the beeper. or better yet, turn the stereo louder.
