Well, we traded in a car we truly loved. Subaru Tribeca served us well, very well. However, there were some big personal issues that always kept me looking for more:
- No roof rails
- Only a 1 1/4" receiver
- Cargo Room
The 4Runner improves on all and then some! Very solid roof rails to hold 2 bikes and a cargo carrier when needed(yakima). A 2" receiver to hold a 4-bike hitch system (1 1/4" only hold up to 2 bikes). Cargo room improves a ton. Not to mention more leg room in the back seats vs. the Tribeca.

Of course we had to add the add-ons to not get rid of the wife's desires(mine too).
Yes it drives like a truck, and I like it. Gas tank is larger(one less gas station stop en route to CO for Mountain Bike Nationals). Why 4Runner you ask? Because I was a flip of a coin from getting a 2010 FJ Trail Team Edition. The wife hated having to go back to our Honda Element Interior roots, and the 4Runner Trail was the next closest thing(capable off road and keeps the NO-Chrome/Silver trim style. Not to mention it matches the Tribeca in all categories if not beats it. It has all the perks our Tribeca had and then some.
I got a college grad rate, they took our Tribeca trade in at a -$300 close-to-wash, and we are BUYING, not leasing, our first car. Oh yeah, it is one of three Trail Editions currently sitting in the Chicago Region.
It is SO fun to drive! I will post lots and lots of pics next week once it goes back to the dealer for the add-ons.
I understand, many of you dislike the look of the new 2010 5th gens. I feel your pain, for I Hate the 2nd gen Tribecas. I will always take the Alfa-like grill in my 2007 Trbeca over any newer Tribeca. With that said, you have to respect the new design's ability to pry my eyes off of the FJ and away from a Subaru brand I will always stay true to.
