Fishwerks' Photo/Build Thread

Can I invite myself on this Moab trip? I'd enjoy seeing it at a different time of year, and I'd prefer to do a trip with a smaller group of 4Runner guys than the gigantic cluster that is the TW meet. Also, it should be easy for me to get time off in March.

I think I speak for everyone when I say you would be more than welcome. I agree with the smaller group for sure. Even if everyone invited comes, including you, the list is only at 7. Much better than I dont know how many at the TW meet haha.

Although if you come I'll have to get my runner in pristine shape so I dont get shown up too bad.... :D

This is what I like to hear. I'd love to stay out the whole week but I'm not sure all of us can. That said I'd be more than willing to stay and wheel as long as you are

I would love to wheel at least 4 days, 5 would be great. We will nail down what trails and which days as it gets closer i would guess.

Nick, it would be awesome to have another sweet 4runner in the group, and yes, a small capable group is always much more fun than a huge gaggle of trucks. Welcome aboard. :D

7 rigs would be awesome, dude, this will be so awesome if we can all make it. We should make a new thread in the "off-road" section to hash out details and keep everything organized instead of in FR4R 's build thread. Just a thought.

probably. haha. I'll throw one up.

I'm not entirely sure if I'll make Moab this march but I sure hope too. If not you'd be welcome to borrow my skids though.

Hopefully I'll have my own and hopefully you can make it! If not, I'll keep the skids in mind. Thanks Kyle.

Oh its happening. Also throw TMAC110 and NateMob in the mix as I threw it out to them as well.

You can make all that happen if you stop :fishing: haha. If you want help throwing that 7th on lemme know.

Stop fishing? Never.

TCMach can I ride shotgun? since I know I'll have to leave mine parked :ballchain:I've never been......

forreal though, shoot me a text haha

You're welcome to come man.

That March Moab trip is beginning to look like a real possibility. The wife knows about it and is planning on flying home that weekend for a wedding so i would be riding solo more than likely. I hope everything pans out for all of us, its been too long since ive been to Moab. And to get to wheel out there for a solid week or so would be incredible.

Awesome!

You can absolutely invite yourself haha. We'd be glad to have you there! Too bad there are no trout streams around Moab...

Went to Discount Tire and they told me that my lug nuts on the LC wheels did not have enough thread engagement on the studs even though the lug nuts were the correct type (older 80 series wheels - acorn lugs). Keep in mind Discount mounted these wheels and tires for me, and have rotated them a few times since the original mounting. After trying to figure out what to do, and explaining the truck couldn't leave on the LC wheels (liability) they gave me some free wheels.

They had 4 styles in the store with the correct specs, all MB brand wheels. These were the only black ones, and the ones I liked the most. I won't complain because they were free. Not sure if I will keep them, but I'm leaving them for now. If I want to keep the LC wheels I guess I'll need longer studs.

Sorry for the shitty iPhone pictures.

Opinions? I actually like them, but wouldn't necessarily choose them over the LC wheels. These are 16x8.5 and -6mm offset, so they sit the same as the LC wheels, but the 285s look just a hair wider now.

I'm not a huge fan of the fake bead lock look, but that aside they look sharp. Shame about the LC wheels - I love the way they look on these trucks.

For Christmas I received some shackle hangers for solid front recovery points (this thread - http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/26221-front-d-ring-mounts.html and this website for ordering - Trackdecal.com - Road Course Decals and Motorsports Graphics).

With a shackle on one of them, but I won't be driving with shackles in them all the time.

More exciting updates coming soon (hopefully).

FR4R Bumping this thread/calling you out because I know your truck looks a little different.

Anybody got a guess as to whats happening here?

I think you're half correct Big Fish. It looks like they are cutting the body lift mount off in the second picture, so it will fit without the body lift. My cookie! :biggrin2:

I really like ODL bumpers after seeing one. Makes me want to hack more metal off of my ARB...

Looks to me like somebody bought this...

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/sale-t4r-items/162647-3rd-gen-outdoor-logic-front-bumper.html

Which means a 1" BL also happened.

Do I win a cookie?

That is the one I bought, but you get to split the cookie because I cut off the body lift spacers.

I get one too, right?

Well I bought an Outdoor Logic bumper, kind of spur of the moment but definitely worth it (Thanks toykidd). It was built for a 1" body lift, but all that had to be done to make it fit without a body lift was cut off 2 spacers on the winch plate. No winch in it yet, I don't know when that will happen.

Looks great man, I never realized how out there and unsupported that front hoop looks though. Either way, the black looks great.

Have fun in Moab!

Looks good! You got that on there pretty quick! glad it went to a good home. You will really happy with the improved approach angle out in moab.

The front hoop definitely sticks out a ways, hopefully I don't need it too often. Thanks for the compliment, I'm stoked on the bumper.

Be safe on your deployment. We will have to get out to Moab another time when you are free.

Thanks Steve! I had it on saturday night :spy: but I wanted to wash the 4runner before putting pictures up. I'll make sure to get in on a trail run with you guys down there after Moab sometime.

Installed my Lockrite on saturday (Thanks for the good deal J-money$$$). Bought a new spring kit for it and in it went with the help TCMach. Filled the diff with Redline heavy shockproof gear oil which was a pain because it has the consistency of a milkshake.

Shitty iPhone picture

Initial impressions of the locker are good, I drove it 3 hours on interstate and barely noticed it except a couple times when I let off the gas, then got back on it while still traveling at good speed. In town it unlocks when it should in low-torque situations around corners and then locks up when it should under higher torque. Torque steer (if that's the right term) isn't too bad, noticeable mostly turning right from a stop if you give it a good amount of gas. You can feel it when you put the car into gear, I think because it gives some torque to the driveline maybe and pushes the locker into the side gears.

Thanks smkd13 for the write-up on installing the locker, the only thing I might add to it that TCMach recommended to me was taking pictures of the adjuster rings before you take them off so are sure you put them back in correctly.

Basically ready for Moab, although I might get my storage drawers built before I go. And I need some d-ring shackles for the front bumper and some other little things.

Hmmm I swear I had something in there about it but I will make sure I update it here when I have a min or two. Glad it could be of some assistance bud. When are you guys going to Moab?

I think it says something about making sure the threads match up, but it's a bit unclear. Other than that it was invaluable, so thanks for writing it.

Headed out to Moab on Saturday.

Nice I am heading out in about two months for the TW meet.

And glad it could be of assistance to you good sir.
