Holy monster trout, batman! Look at the shoulders on that first one your brother is holding! :shocked: I must say I'm a little jealous. NZ and Patagonia are at the top of my dream list... along with Ontario/Quebec for big brookies... the UP in Michigan for steelhead/lake run browns... and let's not forget Kamchatka.

Nice work, Chris! You guys must be good with the sticks as I've heard those NZ trout are spooky.

That fish was special no doubt, a moment I will never forget! I also would love to hit Patagonia and Kamchatka. Michigan would be fun but I've heard the crowds of people make that experience an interesting one...

The plane tickets down there are pricey, but the guides in NZ are fairly priced and well worth the money. If you get the chance to head down there sometime and need any insight I can recommend some guides and such. Fishing down there is a whole new challenge.

I have Patagonia and Kamchatka on my list as well, never thought about headed to Canada for brookies, might have to add that one! You definitely have to be able to cast in NZ, throwing a 20 foot leader is like learning to cast all over again...and trust me we blew more opportunities than we connected on. But those fish are supposed to kick your ass, that's why landing one is so special.

What did you have to post those pictures for???How am I to stick to my plan and focus now?:heh: I thought i was holding out with some big fish pics but Man are beautiful. Such clear water...what size bugs and dig your guide tie them, did you sight fish to them?

I am almost positive Nick and I went up to the outside as well bc the rocks weren't there and it was much different. I'll have to checks the pics later, I could be wrong.

This thread needed some fish porn anyways! For dry flies we threw size 12-16 mayfly patterns (usually a parachute adams, classic) or blowfly patterns tied to 5x tippet. Nymphs were more variable, but landed fish on some pheasant tail like patterns and such, again size 12-16 mostly.

We had two different guides down there, not sure if they tied their bugs but most likely they did. Those guides are worth every penny in my opinion, it's really hard to pick a blue line off the map, read up on it, and expect to succeed like we do in the states. And yes, we sight-fished to each one we landed, so fun.

Thanks Chris! I just took them to Discount, but I had my buddy who works there mount them. He did a good job.

The local Kal Tire scrapped up two of my SCS wheels pretty bad - not looking forward to the confrontation to address it...

Your rig looks the part - not time to detail the body and get it super shiny!

This part got a little interesting. On the left-hand side of the photo you can see the dark ramp-like part that you are "supposed" to go down. I thought my buddies went down the ledge, so I had my passenger tires about where the dog's head is, he is about 24" tall at his back. My co-pilot told me there was like a 3-foot ledge, but I went off anyways (luckily I missed the really big part!) Came down pretty hard on the frame rail when the suspension compressed as the front tires dropped off, and I scraped my bumper as the back tires came off. I also broke one of the front SR5 mud-flaps, but I should be able to salvage it. I checked underneath and it doesn't look like anything is out of place, so that's lucky!

You would think that going down the nice ramp would be self-explanatory, but apparently not. I'm also happy to hear I'm not alone in making that mistake.

And thanks! It's cool you are back in a 3rd gen, when I was starting this build I was constantly in your old build thread drooling.

Any sugesstion on a rod/reel combo? Was just going to get an ugly stik with a shimano sonora reel or penn fierce 6000. I think I would enjoy getting to the fishing location more than actually fishing so dont need an expensive setup.
