First Wax Job

Had some extra time today so I ran to kragens and picked up some Megiaurs Next Tech wax.

Went by the intrstructions, and used the hand applicator. I think I went overboard on the hood and part of the side. Put a too much wax I think, but nevertheless it came off. Lowered the amount of wax on the sides of the car however.

I only did one side of the car at a time, Ie the hood, then wait a bit, and then wiped it off.

When I was finished, I was satisfied. However, there is one thing, I was feeling around, and the side of the car feels really smooth, however on the hood, when I run my hand over, it feels like there are small little bumps on the hood. Not very big at all, and not noticable.

Is this normal? Is it just some debri or dust or did I put too much wax on?

How smooth should the car feel?

If you want the super smooth feeling, you have to clay. Clay gets all the pollutants out of the paint. I think that is the bumps on the hood. It could also be chipped paint, tar, sap, old bird poop remnants. You need to clay!!

I see. Maybe next time I decide to wax I'll do it. It is mandatory to clay before you wax or just recommended?

It is recommended that you wash using dawn to remove all wax. Then wash with regular car soap, dry, then clay. Then wash again with car soap, dry, polish, then wax. I don't think its a good idea to clay on top of wax. I could be wrong, anyone chime in if you disagree.

BTW, it is not mandatory, but the clay removes all tar, pollutants, sap, grime that washing could not get out. I am going to clay everytime I wax the Runner.
