Fixed nut?

Looking for the product that you tighten down with a bolt and two wrenches to add fixed threads (to the frame for instance) where there were none before.

Here's my problem: one of the skid plate bolt holes is rusted to the point of not holding threads. I'd prefer to not go up in size to a new bolt as I'd like to not have one bolt of a different size. Thoughts?

What I think you are referring to, is what I call a 'Nut-Sert'. It has a special installation tool, but you also have to have enough good metal for it to hold onto. There may be other similar fastening system out there. You might want to try the local NAPA shop, a Graingers, or a Tractor Supply STore.

Your best best is to first upsize the thread, but if you want. RivNut is the brand name for a type of "Nut-Sert". But you'll need to drill out the old nut in the frame to the correct diameter for the Nut-Sert and then use either the special tool or make your own tool out of washers, nuts, and a bolt.

I've used RivNuts on my 4th gen to replace worn out skid plate nuts in the frame and on a couple spots and they work well.
